a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Monday, 17 June 2019 21:48 (four years ago) link

xp yeah, La Flor opens in the US this August and Dead Souls only had a limited showing at NY Anthology FIlm Archives last December as far as I know

the hardest part of organizing a ballot for me will be the 'new-to-you' older films from prior years, I watched so many classic films for the first time in 2018

Sent!

flappy bird, Tuesday, 18 June 2019 01:46 (four years ago) link

I do make that older films list in January bcz it's self-limiting

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 18 June 2019 01:54 (four years ago) link

limiting my new-to-you list to actual cinema screenings to narrow it down a little

devvvine, Tuesday, 18 June 2019 12:03 (four years ago) link

I did the same thing

flappy bird, Tuesday, 18 June 2019 15:40 (four years ago) link

any roma talk really did just disappear as soon as award season ended, only remembered it existed when i was trying to work out where the pic at the top was from

devvvine, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 12:40 (four years ago) link

It did. And I'm fine with that.

will watch what some have called "the most impressive directorial debut by an actor since Night of The Hunter" before i vote

devvvine, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 13:23 (four years ago) link

Oh god, that blurb. I'd settle for the "least embarrassing directorial debut by an actor since Lady Bird." Maybe.

zama roma ding dong (Eric H.), Wednesday, 19 June 2019 13:30 (four years ago) link

lol what’s that for, eighth grade?

shhh / let peaceful like things (wins), Wednesday, 19 June 2019 14:03 (four years ago) link

not gonna even ask if that was for Jonah Hill

we need til Monday

didn't get around to Zama but I did watch La Cienaga the other night and wow, not my thing at all

flappy bird, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 17:16 (four years ago) link

more like ZZZZZama, amirite?

. (Michael B), Wednesday, 19 June 2019 17:17 (four years ago) link

can now confirm that a star is born is not as good as dead souls

devvvine, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 17:18 (four years ago) link

better than cold war tho

devvvine, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 17:19 (four years ago) link

Martel can take some getting used to; Zama is a *little* more plotty tho

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 19 June 2019 17:38 (four years ago) link

I didn't mind the pace, I just cannot get into body horror. I'll check out Zama and keep plugging away with the rest. I thought a lot of the composition in La Cineaga was striking.

flappy bird, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 17:46 (four years ago) link

after seeing La Ciénaga, The Holy Girl and The Headless Woman I was primed for another film by Lucrecia Martel

Dan S, Thursday, 20 June 2019 00:35 (four years ago) link

I hope some people are voting for Hale County This Morning, This Evening

Dan S, Thursday, 20 June 2019 00:36 (four years ago) link

there's no body horror in Zama (which is not to say there's no bodily injury)

Simon H., Thursday, 20 June 2019 00:37 (four years ago) link

it is maybe more abstract than her previous films but there is so much to contemplate with it

Dan S, Thursday, 20 June 2019 00:53 (four years ago) link

Are ballots due by Friday or on Friday? I just found out I have to be on the road tomorrow so that only leaves Friday morning to squeeze in one more movie (probably Shoplifters].

Herman Woke (cryptosicko), Thursday, 20 June 2019 02:03 (four years ago) link

I loved Shoplifters! thank you for reminding me to vote for it!

amazed you are all so all organized about your 2018 favorites. I feel like I will forget something and won't realize it until the results are rolled out

Dan S, Thursday, 20 June 2019 02:35 (four years ago) link

You should watch Shoplifters, so deadline is 19:00 PDT Friday / noon Saturday AEST / 3am Saturday BST.

7 o'clock pm california time friday, I will have my ballot in by then

Dan S, Thursday, 20 June 2019 03:09 (four years ago) link

Does ballot have to be weighted? Will it mess things up to have an unweightes or mixed ballot?

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 20 June 2019 15:02 (four years ago) link

'unweighted'

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 20 June 2019 15:02 (four years ago) link

Votes are weighted. Please send your lists with your TOP choice at the TOP, but do not number your choices. (It's a ballache for formatting.)

shhh / let peaceful like things (wins), Thursday, 20 June 2019 15:04 (four years ago) link

Yeah, saw that, thanks.

tt and i have voted. no internet videos this time, although my ballot is as usual a lovely reduction of hers (with the same #1, which sic would be doing very well to exclude)

imago, Friday, 21 June 2019 23:03 (four years ago) link

excited to read that!

Dan S, Friday, 21 June 2019 23:06 (four years ago) link

Dan S, Friday, 21 June 2019 23:57 (four years ago) link
