Suspect Cesar Sayoc worked as an exotic dancer and bouncer at several strip clubs, a cousin told NBC News.

The cousin called Sayoc a “loose cannon” and a “lost soul” and said he was estranged from his family.

“He’s been in the strip clubs since he was 22, that was his life,” the relative said. “He was a male dancer and he wanted to be a wrestler. He was taking steroids. He was all buffed up....He was built like a rock.”

Sayoc appears to have been living in his van and showering at the gym, according to NBC. He filed for bankruptcy in 2012 and a property he owned was foreclosed on in 2009.

A lawsuit in which Sayoc was deposed said he had been a manager at a strip club called Stir Crazy for 35 years. In that same deposition, Sayoc claimed he was also a pro wrestler, a Chippendales dancer, a professional soccer player in Milan, and an arena football player in Arizona.

Something that's maybe worth pointing out (which I believe someone referenced upthread): these attempts at political assassination (and, however inept the attempt, let's call it what it is) often wind up having apolitical motives (see: Reagan, Wallace, etc.)...buuuut that really doesn't seem to be the case here at all, even if the dude is mentally ill. This was a fairly coherent response to Trump's incoherent calls for violent action.

“I’d like to begin today’s remarks by providing an update on the packages and devices that have been mailed to high-profile figures throughout our country and a media organization,” Trump said, before further confirming that the suspect had been apprehended. He did not mention that the devices were almost exclusively sent to prominent critics of his administration.
