Right, picked up the book with the script and the soundtrack about 25 years ago.

Love the compilation Rated X by An All White Jury which collected his 1st 3 lps. THough don't think it lists who is playing on it.

also recommended: Story of a 3-Day Pass (likely source of Spike Lee's habitual dolly shot)

There was a great article in Motorbooty in the late 90s covering all of his lps and i think it might have been what turned me onto him unfortunately that's the one copy of the magazine that disappeared on me. Need a new copy

About $20 shipped for Motorbooty #8 on Ebay.

I've seen about double that for it to here though.
BUt I remember the article being pretty interesting anyway.

two months pass...

Rewatched Sweetback last night... I think 'objections' to its mythologizing depend on whether one regards the title character's superstud qualities as a joke on white racist stereotyping. Seems obvious to me.

TCM is airing Watermelon Man in September. I never really hear it talked about or see it shown. Worth a watch?

Yes, but it's basically MVP showing (after Story of a 3 Day Pass impressed some festivals etc) that he could do a *somewhat* conventional studio comedy... it was written by the white Jewish guy, Herman Raucher, who did Summer of '42. It does have a good star performance by Godfrey Cambridge, who is always worth watching.
