Classic, she needs a thread

Slippage (Ross), Monday, 11 June 2018 06:10 (one month ago) Permalink

never heard of her until the correspondence dinner but i’m gonna have to say classic based on that alone

a correspondence dinner is, i'm assuming, where each of your courses is sent to you in the mail and then you send back your dirty dishes by return post

voice is a bit hard to take in large doses.
Found her quite good on things like the Daily Show over the last couple of years.

Watched the first of her new series though girlfriend didn't like her voice at all and I turned it off for her.
Watched it alone though.
Have the 2nd one but not watched it yet.

This is such a great thing to watch on sundays while I am cooking. Her stand up is seriously tops. Her voice just kind of reminds me of a lot of asian nasally vocalizations so it doesn't bother me.

we thought the second episode was so terrible we may not want another one. 0 laughs, more or less. is this show broadcast live? Because it seems like it was being made up on the spot.

though I did sort of admire a comedian who likes to joke about how hard she is to listen to offering not one, not two, but three fake commercials based around car alarms, whistles, and sirens that won't turn off.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 11 June 2018 15:01 (one month ago) Permalink

I figure it's just trying to figure out its groove right now because it definitely has some throw it at the wall bits.

I really liked that joke, because I once vomited on the door of my truck and the door ajar bell wouldn't go off for two years. I just kept driving it like that. People who rode in my car were like wtf?

Yerac, Monday, 11 June 2018 15:04 (one month ago) Permalink

I guess she is committed to having fellow comedians on as guests on the couch not being funny together. Because the Neal Brennan bit was less than not funny.

seems like this is almost always the case with new talk shows. Netflix should just start paying a new host to make like a half-dozen episodes and then throw 'em all in the trash and only start airing them after that.

finally a female Gilbert Gottfried

I like Efrim's singing for Silver Mt. Zion so MW's voice doesn't bother me.

The writing for the third episode OTOH...

So episode 3 stinks as well? Wow.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 11 June 2018 19:12 (one month ago) Permalink

Yeah, not so great honestly. I'm still on board though

The clip segments are fairly lame overall

Wolf has so much personality she doesn’t need to dun. It down. One peeve of mine is the DJ who laughs at every joke, not as bad as Baptiste on Colbert tho.

Slippage (Ross), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:29 (one month ago) Permalink

Dumb it down rather

Slippage (Ross), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:30 (one month ago) Permalink

I feel like she has more of a stage to set about her brand of humor and who she is since she's not going to play it down the middle. So when she goes a bit formulaic or even "feministplainy" I cringe.

Yerac, Monday, 11 June 2018 19:33 (one month ago) Permalink

Good point

Slippage (Ross), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:33 (one month ago) Permalink

I just looked up what the show is supposed to be and it literally is just "a break" from everything else.

Yerac, Monday, 11 June 2018 19:35 (one month ago) Permalink

The two episodes I've seen she's sort of been ironic and snide about shitty jokes and segments. Like, look at us, we are doing a shitty segment. Like she is being forced to do it, like a hostage or something. But I keep thinking, no, you are choosing to do this, you are choosing to be terrible, you are choosing to be not funny, even if you laugh and wink about it if it's still your fault. It's a dead end to do something dumb on purpose just for the sake of making a joke about doing something dumb. Just be smart! Right now, straight out of the gate, it has the vibe of a show on life support, like they are running down the clock. That is not how a new show is supposed to start out.

I liked bees last episode with the censor committee - bee is never too corny imo

New ep was better, segments were dece
Michelle’s commentary was good, she’s endlessly endearing

just feel like her “easy” jokes are way too easy and also not really funny?

maura, Monday, 18 June 2018 13:42 (one month ago) Permalink

i miss the joel mchale show

maura, Monday, 18 June 2018 13:43 (one month ago) Permalink

I thought this week's epi was the weakest so far. Although I did kind of chuckle at the end of the yogurt/shed joke because it went on far too long.

Yerac, Monday, 18 June 2018 15:01 (one month ago) Permalink

last episode was the best so far. she was on fire

stoker (Ross), Friday, 29 June 2018 06:32 (three weeks ago) Permalink

I've been enjoying them. Have seen up to 5, though i think 3 hasn't appeared where I'm getting them from.
Voice is still pretty shrill but i guess that's a constant.

Stevolende, Friday, 29 June 2018 09:11 (three weeks ago) Permalink

her voice is probably subjective, but i love it
