In the WHOLE FOODS BAR: drinking while shopping strangers unknowingly keep me company

whole foods bar has CBS on tap. set my soup supplies down and had a half-pour. I certainly enjoy the maple sweetness compared to KBS. hard to say if I like it more than backwoods in the founders lineup.

and no judgement here, but it always surprises me how a bar set in the middle of whole foods deli can actually transform into a "bar" bar. there are people there to drink beer, watch football, fuss over whether or not to get food, etc. I've gotten a beer there twice, and both times I was the only one with a basket of vegetables, grabbing a quick beer while grocery shopping.

I’ve had more beers at the Whole Foods bar in my new town than all other places combined. Hang out with kid, get him some pasta salad, have a beer.

that's a nice idea! A bit amazed by the whole foods bar selection.

The Whole Foods bar thing needs its own thread. It’s so weird to navigate.

I got La Chouffe tonight. Because Happy Holidays.

a friend of mine bartends at the whole foods near me. he worked in regular bars for a like a decade and while he thinks the "whole foods bar scene" is ridiculous and absurd (what sufjan mentioned -- people actually going there to hang out vs getting a beer while shopping or getting a quick bite) he really loves the pace and the hours. he gets off work at 9:30pm as opposed to 3am or 4am.

there is a bar at my local whole foods. i never have been. i joked with my wife that it would be funny going to the whole foods bar to get shit-canned with your buddies. she didn't find this concept particularly amusing

it is funny but it is what actually happens there ime! it is a bar. first time I went, there was even a "regular." he bought the bartender a beer because the bartender had bought him a beer the night before.

the vibe i get from the bar at my local foods is definitely more people having coffee and maybe a a drink as it's fairly small and a cafe/bar rather than a bar. i do live in vancouver however which is like the worst most anemic bar culture of any city I've ever been in

I have been to Whole Foods just to drink at the bar. They have tons of special tappings. It’s a popular happy hour type bar.

There are bars at Whole foods?! I don't think there are here in MA. Huh.

coworker and I went to the whole foods bar last night. felt good. didn't dare order any whole foods bar food, though.

I have one near work that has 24 taps, I go there after work sometimes for tap takeovers (had my first Firestone-Walker Parabola there a few years ago, and Goose Island BCBS most recently).

They used to have "kill the keg" specials where kegs that were going low sold for $3 or $4 for the normal pour, but I haven't seen this recently.

Oh man I so want to get drunk in Whole Foods and cause a scene... somebody stop me

brimstead, Thursday, 21 December 2017 00:58 (six years ago) link

Do they serve Patron shots?

brimstead, Thursday, 21 December 2017 01:10 (six years ago) link

I think they're beer and wine only. But I was pretty drunk on that Firestone-Walker takeover day. I think I wandered around the store for 40 minutes afterward to sober up.
