― Frederik B, Friday, 17 August 2018 17:32 (five years ago) link
Like the 'ea' in 'thread' or 'dead'
― Frederik B, Friday, 17 August 2018 17:34 (five years ago) link
... or like the "e" in "Fred"
― Doctor Casϵϵno (Doctor Casino), Friday, 17 August 2018 17:36 (five years ago) link
surely if you pronounce it in Danish the vowel sound of the first e is more like the a in "pat"
― niels, Friday, 17 August 2018 17:36 (five years ago) link
wait... so it sounds exactly like an english E
or do other english accents pronounce the E in "med" different from the ea in "dead"? i am perplexed
xp lol

as is the i
― niels, Friday, 17 August 2018 17:37 (five years ago) link

googles a suitable reference worth noting that English has around 15 vowel sounds, whereas well-organized languages tend to get by with 5 or 6. The choice of vowel sound to use in many words also tends to vary by region.

where i grew up you were lucky if you heard two different vowel sounds, mostly it was just a growl and then kind of another louder growl

I think the Danes had quite a bit of influence on the development of English.
