this is a very ilxy tangent which wld probably merit the titular deemsian rejoinder, but I feel like there is something affirming, comforting about being one of the lads sometimes. everyone says men are bad at looking after themselves & each other but the concept of lads has warmth and affection in it as well as the other stuff, which is why a lot of guys I know only use it semi-ironically

ogmor, Monday, 11 September 2017 21:38 (one year ago) Permalink

Rejoinder thus:

Inasmuch as the unpopular and little-understood ilx meme 'lads' in its late 2017 form as a token of West hibernian fond-but-disappointed exasperation can be said to have a claim at all to adherence to its main proponent's intention once loosed upon a thread (NB it cannot) it is ironic yet acknowledgedly inevitable that that the term is taken as linked to the LADkultur memes of yesteryear and otherwheres despite being understood in its use by as delivered as stereotypically addressing a group of either or indeed both genders, an individual of either gender or indeed addressing no identifiable personage at all, this latter usage technically difficult but certainly possible with only a little practice and no more than the slightest steer at first until the sea legs have been found and found to be trustworthy from a munsterman, he preferably being not from Tipp Nenagh but rather Tipp Thurles if the best such guidance is to be held as an input of import into the same instruction.

not so much now but back in the 00s you would hear the cheshire and manchester lads pleading "maaaate!" in a sense so broad it became existential, afronted by fate. still a softness to it though, the fondness is key

grilled cheese is a misnomer, as it is typically made on a griddle rather than a grill; even if you were to make it on a grill it would be the bread that got grilled; the cheese is merely melted
