I thought I didn't like mushy peas but I think that was based on trying them once when I was very young (probably under 5). Then when we had some in-laws visiting they wanted to try some of our disgusting British food so we had fish, chips & mushy peas and I gave it a go and what do you know, mushy peas are actually delicious. Although not enough that I'm bitterly upset about 35 years of no mushy peas tbh.

Had same experience with mushy peas but put it down to the version I had as a kid coming from a cheap tin whereas now I guess it would be posh stuff.

Onions and tomatoes are so useful, they'd be the hardest to do without.

chips are beyond reproach, roasties & creamy mash are incredible but only occasional treats. otherwise potatoes are no way near as useful, delicious or versatile as onions or toms, they are the wicked idol of the bland-palated sauce-denying ascetic

Never got around to voting, but quite happy with the broccoli/sprouts/cauliflower/cabbage/cavolo species defeating the potato by 15 votes to 9.
