I told it to end on the 2nd. Not sure why it moved the date up on me.

I think he'll still be AG, Trump is too chickenshit to actually fire him and he neither the spine nor pride to resign on his own

frogbs, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 04:34 (six years ago) link

Time will tell, time will tell. I'll vote for the third option, because I don't know whether he quits or gets fired.

clemenza, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 04:35 (six years ago) link

Comey and Flynn had no outside the beltway constituencies. Sessions does. I think several people within the administration would wrestle Trump to the ground before allowing him to fire Sessions.

xxp - 6 people have to die

I never realized that the Treasury Secretary is ahead of the AG in the line of succession, that seems bizarre.

The only thing I know for sure is that Jefferson Beauregard Sessions will one day die, and that fact is a source of great comfort for me and my family.

would have expected SecDef to follow the Senate PPT, I assume that after the Pres/VP/Speaker/oldest white man in the Senate get wacked I assume we're going to be bombing everywhere

El Tuomasbot (milo z), Wednesday, 26 July 2017 05:05 (six years ago) link

Sessions won't resign, someone will jump on the grenade before Trump fires him, they'll manage some kind of public makeup sessions like executing a bunch of minority kids arrested for selling weed to white sorority girls and spend the next 3.5 years seething in mutual loathing

i don't even know what Trump is trying to do. if Sessions quits does that mean he doesn't get to collect unemployment or something?

nomar, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 15:55 (six years ago) link

I think what he's trying to do is actually pretty obvious. it looks bad if he straight up fires him and shuts down the investigation. but he really wants sessions out and to shut down the investigation. so the best scenario for trump is sessions quitting and trump 'having no choice' but to replace him. obviously strong-arming him to quit and actually firing him look the same to everyone, but trump thinks he's being real crafty.

see, and y'all thought Trump was incapable of learning from his mistakes

frogbs, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 16:12 (six years ago) link

I really hope Trump does fire Sessions but he needs a pretext to do it, so he's biding his time

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 16:22 (six years ago) link

until he comes up with one or one presents itself

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 16:22 (six years ago) link

so the best scenario for trump is sessions quitting and trump 'having no choice' but to replace him.

i believe this is true, but it's also baffling that he didn't accept sessions resignation a few weeks ago, or years, or days, i have lost all track of time

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 16:22 (six years ago) link

I don't know, someone told him on Fox News that Sessions was disloyal and he began believing it much more.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 16:25 (six years ago) link

yeah my disbelief at his actions is strictly due to that attempted resignation and now this.

nomar, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 16:26 (six years ago) link

I think Sessions will be pushed out, not in the next week, but in the next few months. Trump is too thoroughly obsessed with Mueller's Russian-influence investigation to let Jeff stay as AG, because his recusal doesn't allow Sessions to fire Mueller without Sessions immolating his career and reputation in the process. Sessions won't do that to himself. This infuriates Trump.

six years pass...

Just for the record, the evil gnome Jeff Sessions lasted in the job until November 7, 2018. Now this thread can gently settle back into the sludge where old threads go to die.
