jason waterfalls (gbx), Friday, 19 May 2017 15:07 (nine months ago) Permalink

the funniest part of course is that he did the cartoon, put the poster of trump with 'open season', put the witches and gave them shotguns, and then thought about his audience for a second, and wrote TRUMP HUNT in big letters, just in case

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 19 May 2017 15:10 (nine months ago) Permalink

political cartoons are maybe the single worst medium with regard to "show don't tell." the overwhelming majority, whatever their politics, would be massively improved by an editor nixing some number of written labels. also a high ratio of speech balloons contorting into overworded messes to explain the background and then convey the joke, which to other humorists is usually a sign that the joke isn't going to work.

Occasionally I wonder, when the WP comes up, whether Jeff Bezos is not in fact a more malign or potentially more malign figure than Trump, taking a broad view. But I guess that isn't the conversation Ben Garrison is interested in having.

The Adventures Of Whiteman (Bananaman Begins), Wednesday, 31 May 2017 09:10 (eight months ago) Permalink

I'm sort of grimly fascinated by Ben Garrison. How does he claim to be a "rogue cartoonist" when one of his defining features is completely unquestioning loyalty to the president of the USA? What's he going to do when the Trump project inevitably disintegrates? Is there a point where he would be disillusioned? What then?

Camaraderie at Arms Length, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 20:41 (eight months ago) Permalink

He's also written a long article entitled "Advice for Aspiring Cartoonists" in case anyone wants to follow in his footsteps.

Camaraderie at Arms Length, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 20:45 (eight months ago) Permalink

when the Trump project inevitably disintegrates it will be because of the sinister machinations of the shadowy elite made up of the Republican establishment the Deep State and the Rothschilds

soref, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 20:46 (eight months ago) Permalink

the media has its golden goose so the "project" (whatever that is) disintegrating not likely to happen. he could be impeached and exiled from the country and we will still hear about every single dumb thing he tweets for the rest of his and our livee.

"How does he claim to be a "rogue cartoonist" when one of his defining features is completely unquestioning loyalty to the president of the USA?"

this is trump's base generally; hence the focus on the evil media and derp state machinations to explain why having trump in charge isn't magically fulfilling all their dreams and changing the entire system.

Trump had the conspiracy theorist types in his pocket from the get-go; had assumed that if he were ever to win he'd lose them instantly, like they'd have to think "welp, he's a lizard person/bilderberg stooge/whatever now". But the combative nature of his presidency, the fact that it always looks just about to fall apart, has made it so you can now maintain wake up sheeple cred while repping for the most powerful man in the United States.

Changes afoot in 2018 - Ben Garrison seems to have crossed over from Trump-fixated conspiracy troll to full-on antisemitic racist, not much of a change, but it's telling that r/the_donald seem less keen on sharing this than previous efforts

This text was posted with it -

Why can’t we have the best and brightest coming here? No, Emma wanted the ‘refuse’ instead because she enjoyed playing God and imagined herself ‘helping’ them. She was a moral person who would do anything to obtain the fix of being ‘good.’ It must have given her a warm, inner glow to write what she did and the progressives mades sure her sentiments were set in stone in order to make sure everyone knew how good she was. Her plaque is nothing more than progressive virtue signaling.

Now we here the Rothschilds had a fire sale. They dumped their vast Black Forest land holdings—including their mansions. Was this because they didn’t want them seized? After all, there have long been rumors of human sacrifice on the properties and Trump as vowed to seize the properties of slave traffickers.

Additional: Despite having smoked an entire marijuana harvest in his younger days, Obama turned hypocritical on the matter once he attained the presidency. He cracked down on medical marijuana dispensaries. Probably at the bidding of the powerful big pharma lobby. The pill pushers don’t want the competition of a natural herb that helps many relieve pain.

frogbs, Thursday, 15 February 2018 18:47 (four days ago) Permalink

From his commentary on the toon featuring Sessions going after a pot leaf:

But it never happens. Our Attorney General, Sessions, has recused himself from investigating her crimes. Instead, he’s going after marijuana.

The so-called ‘war on drugs’ has been a monumental flop. It’s a waste of lives, resources, energy and time. Have you learned nothing from prohibition, Jefferson Sessions? I realize President Trump was elected to enforce the rule of law. We want illegal aliens kicked out of the country, for example. Obama certainly didn’t enforce that law.

But marijuana? Leave that up to the states to decide!
