finally watched eps 4-5. i'm not sure i really buy drummer coming over like that, but they did a great job in limited time trying to sell it. the little moments they have -- bobbie and amos in the bar, holden and peaches in the kitchen, drummer and naomi on the bridge -- are so good at developing both the characters and the story.

(it's such a stark contrast with star trek discovery's efforts in this area, where it's all like Character A: hello, i am feeling poorly because of x, y and z, some of which are my parents! then Character B: (simpering) but i believe in you! do you feel seen yet?)

that said, philip's 'dis is woah!' speech was bad and cringeworthy

We watched the first five episodes of S6 the last few days. First episode felt off a bit - some worse than usual CGI, a lot of cuts to black that halted the flow, and the Filip/Yoan scenes were badly acted - but it picked up in episode 2 and now I'm fully invested again. I found the book this season is based on to be a bit of a slog but the TV writers have pared it down to the most exciting/interesting moments, as well as added some good new stuff

Pretty satisfying finale. While the action scenes didn't quite match the best ones in previous seasons, I was very drawn in. Some nice quiet moments among the Roci crew. The Laconia storyline was handled pretty poorly in the season though - it was a lot of setup with zero closure. Feels like the writers included it in order to will the next 3 seasons to happen lol. Think it would have been more effective to just have a few minute tease at the end of the finale where we see Duerte observing Xan and the protomolecule ship

I am late to this one. I picked up the first book in the series because it was offered for cheap on Amazon. At first, I thought it was pretty generic sci-fi, but it captured my attention pretty quickly. Still on the fence about whether to watch the series.

just when i thought the filip redemption arc couldn't get any worse

however i’m happy that the plan ended up being to use protomolecule ring magic to kill marco rather than boring old bullets

I was enjoying the ride of bad ass space battles but after the ring magic destroyed the Pella and they cut to Naomi I did get teary eyed. Otoh she did seem to get over it quickly

I assume those were protomolecule-infused 'dogs' doing the zombification and the planet would be a major storyline if the show got picked up elsewhere.

I think it was obliquely referenced in Holden's "we still don't know what happened to that missing protomolecule sample" and maybe the blue glimmering ship we saw? and the guy cutting Marco off?

all sorta handled by Naomi's "can we just worry about this later" (when there is a sequel?)

The zombie kids are on Laconia, the planet colonized by the Mars navy defectors led by Duarte. The blue glowing ship thing was briefly mentioned as a dormant orbital platform left there by a prior civilization.

That prior civilization had some protomolecule stuff going on, and Duarte was given the sample in exchange for a lot of armaments and ships he traded to Marco.

I’m fine with having set that stuff up, not because it leaves the door open for more tv episodes, but due to the fact it leaves the world open. Holden and company aren’t creating some utopia, just addressing the challenges that continually pop up given the world the show’s created. Whether we see those stories as not, the universe is going to keep changing.

it’s the protomolecule curse, the more reasonable people use it to advance their material science a little and make new armor for ships and some gradual advances, the opportunistic and narcissistic will try to grab the golden ring and boast about how they’re going to fight gods (whoever nuked the prior protomolecule civilization)
