Jackass: the movie

Who is excited and waiting for this to come out?
(I think it's Oct. 25th in America, and Jan 24th in the UK.)

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 14 October 2002 03:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jesus, no-one, I would hope. Jackass is the Sex Pistols of stupid, with the added advantage that some of the people who go "Yeah! I could do that!" will end up dead.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew = on crack!!

I can't bloody wait, in fact I've got a mate in Thailand ready to send me a pirate dvd as soon as they hit the stalls in Bangkok.

The trailers look fantastic.

chris (chris), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay then, defend it. Explain what is worthwhile about people damaging themselves on camera. Pay particular attention to the distinction between it and You've Been Framed/America's Funniest Home Videos.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:24 (twenty-three years ago)

see the thread I started ages ago. Everyone needs some mindless fun in their lives and Jackass is it for me. Admittedly I'm not a big fan of the clips where they con or make fun of hapless passers-by, there it steps into the realm of trigger-happy tv etc which you speak of but when they do the stunts etc it can be exhilarating, for example Tony Hawk and Matt Hoffman on the loop the loop jump into the lake, absolutely awesome.

chris (chris), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:27 (twenty-three years ago)

that other thread:
Jackass c or d

chris (chris), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually like the ones with the passers by. I hated when Dom Joly did the sketches with old people though, easy targets and also they all seemed quite taken in.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:47 (twenty-three years ago)

curses, Chris had spotted my secret Cool Thing I Saw On Jackass (the loop the loop)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:04 (twenty-three years ago)

has anyone seen the CKY movies?

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:09 (twenty-three years ago)

you can't argue with the Loop, dude.

and on that, Bam was damaging himself, yes. But only because he wanted to do the thing so goddamn much.

an infrequently mentioned classic has to be the iceblock sledding, so simple, so much fun!!

not seen cky yet, although when solvent again I will be getting a few.

chris (chris), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew WK is on the soundtrack Andrew with his bestest song yet!!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:12 (twenty-three years ago)

ah, the CKYs are really great. they're doing another movie called 'Haggard', or so i hear. with actual plot & stuff. hmmmm. not sure if there's gonna be a CKY4. anyone know?

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:16 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, I read about Haggard on one of the fansites. Rake Yohn (long haired bloke who gets antiqued and doesn't like it) is the main character from what I remember.

I did hear about Stevo being arrested for public indecency recently after stapling his scrotum to his thigh in a nightclub.

chris (chris), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

i think steve-o's stapling thing was for his own video, imaginatively titled "the steve-o video" i believe. i didn't know Rake Yohn was in it lots, but i heard it was based on Ryan Dunn's (guy with er, shit on his lip) weird love-life. but what do i know?

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

hmm, I may be mistooken, but Tony Hawk definitely place a cop

chris (chris), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I love Jackass, I didn't know they were doing a movie. I won't be able to see it at the cinema though because it makes me laugh too much and then I have coughing fits and I don't want to lose all dignity in public, even if is dark public. It takes me about 5 days to recover from watching each episode.

toraneko (toraneko), Monday, 14 October 2002 11:36 (twenty-three years ago)

did anybody see the x-files episode where there was a fake jackass? they called it dumbass and some guy on it had his skull collapse in because flies ate his brain at a fantastic rate...
i'd never really watched the x-files - has it always been so comedy?!

minna (minna), Monday, 14 October 2002 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

This will be the greatest thing in history. I'm assured of it. Jonny Knoxville is the only man who can challenge Steve Irwin for the title of "Greatest Human Alive"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 14 October 2002 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Minna: Yes.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 October 2002 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm dying for this academy award winna. My wife is morally opposed. Tough Rocks, Im going.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 14 October 2002 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
The movie never gets old, does it?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 18 July 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

The yellow snow-cone scene almost made me barf.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Monday, 18 July 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

The only bad scene is where one of them takes a dump in the demonstration toilet. Someone had to clean that up, yuck.

I've never really seen the TV show (half an ep here and there) or the CKY videos, which should come next?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 18 July 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

there is a fabulous gay porn out called spunked that unsublimates the totatlly hot homoeroticism of the knoxville.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 18 July 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

does anybody else find it funny that it was A Nairn who started this thread?

kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 18 July 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

the shorter the bits are in this the better. none of them are bad bad but yeah the toilet, the old ppl, the toy truck up the guy's ass, ehhh. the 12-sec one of the guy trampolining into a ceiling fan is one of the most amazing things i've ever seen.

demonlolver (gcannon), Monday, 18 July 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

my fave is still the guys falling out of the ceiling on the "failed jewel heist" thing. I was crying due to laughing so hard.

as my normally stoic roommate said of the movie at the time: "Best $8 i spent all year."

kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 18 July 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Ready for number two? (This and the Borat movie are my sis's two favorite movies to look forward to for fall, bless her heart.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

'jackass 1' was weak-ass.

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

SO EXCITED! (shall you be a bit patronizing to me too Ned?)

Watched a making of on MTV last night.Much lamentation on how hard it is to pull pranks now b/c of their recognizibility. Also, Bam was made to cry. haw!

Sam: Screwed and Chopped (Molly Jones), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

Jonny Knoxville is the only man who can challenge Steve Irwin for the title of "Greatest Human Alive"

-- Dom Passantino (killallgoth...), October 14th, 2002.

Now he reigns alone?

shall you be a bit patronizing to me too Ned?

I wasn't being patronizing! I *love* the fact that those are her two favorite movies to look forward to! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

ech, still patronizing...

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

:-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

i still love you, Ned.

teh_kit is a pantomime villain! (g-kit), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

jackass 1 was of of the greatest ever, a true contender, genius etc.

i feel genuinely bad for those who cannot, for whatever reason (childhood bed wetting trauma, republicanism, overly conceptual mindstate), enjoy it.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

There is hope yet, Mr. Kit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

news of a 2nd Jackass movie reminds me that there is ALWAYS hope, Ned.

i feel genuinely bad for those who cannot, for whatever reason (childhood bed wetting trauma, republicanism, overly conceptual mindstate), enjoy it.

misfire, chief. nothing agin This Sort Of Thing in general, just execution (also the guys are hard to like).

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

i feel genuinely bad for those who cannot, for whatever reason, enjoy it.

i've never understood that, either. it must be pretty awful. especially people who watch it, but then look away/cover their face during the painful/gross out bits.
why are you watching it at all!?
i watched that episode where they sit there drinking a gallon of milk because i knew they'd spew it up again, not because i like watching people drink milk.
TEH MIND, IT DOES BOGGLE.

teh_kit is a pantomime villain! (g-kit), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

what do you people think of 'dirty sanchez'?

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

i always thought it really funny that the Onion AV Club sent their only female critic to review the flick, who had absolutely no idea how to process it. It's like the editors realized that the movie was critic-proof, so they figured they have a bit of fun by sending the chick reviewer to see it.

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

(...and I'M patronizing?)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

what do you people think of 'dirty sanchez'?

Absolutely dire. I never saw the movie but I used to love "Jackass"!

One Man's Mede Is Another Man's Persian (Dada), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

what do you people think of 'dirty sanchez'?

You know when the Mayor of Morecambe said he wanted his town to be the British Las Vegas?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

misfire, chief. nothing agin This Sort Of Thing in general, just execution (also the guys are hard to like).

sorry didn't mean to be mean - it's just that that movie is exuberant joy personified in all its fucked up, brilliant vicissitudes.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

The difference between Jackass and Dirty Sanchez is that the only "entertainment" value in DS comes from them hurting themselves, it's like a skateboarding video writ large. In Jackass, the stuff is funny even if they don't get injured. I'd give examples but, y'know.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

skating around tokyo in filthy panda suits to the delight of the locals?

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

Perfectly example. The Bounty Hunter skit as well, which is probably the funniest thing they ever did.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Dudes, lay off Ned. He is not being patronizing, his favorite movie is the Lord Of The Rings for christ aloud! His sister probably* holds his choices in an equally rubber-gloved manner.

*my conjecture

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

I've showed my kids a couple of clips here and there and they just don't really get it. I've gotta assume a steady diet of tik tok et al has innured them to some of it's charms. At the same time, there are some Jackass gross eating gags I just don't think I can stomach anymore. Downing freshly expressed horse semen? Eating a vomit omelette? I dunno, man ...

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 22 July 2021 12:16 (four years ago)

I don't remember if they're from the show or the movies but I can't watch the fishhook or paper cut sketches

Vinnie, Thursday, 22 July 2021 13:05 (four years ago)

yeah the paper cut bit is by far the most upsetting one for me, have never been able to watch it.

thats interesting about your kids josh. never thought of it that way but i guess that raw skate video clip look that felt so fresh and exciting at the time (no host, no sets, not plot, no point) is the dominant format of online video now & must not look special at all to young eyes.

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Thursday, 22 July 2021 13:23 (four years ago)

first time I saw the first movie was in high school with like 15 other people, literally no one could watch the papercut scene. its annoying but I guess that's part of their thing, it's not Jackass if they can't freak out the entire audience

frogbs, Thursday, 22 July 2021 13:53 (four years ago)

Mentioned before, but a hunk of the Jackass crew was maybe two years younger than me at my high school. Lots of the show and movies feature destruction of/at sites in and around my home town. Couple of the jackasses bullied my younger sister so bad (I was gone by then, iirc) she left school early.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 22 July 2021 13:59 (four years ago)

first time I saw the first movie was in high school with like 15 other people, literally no one could watch the papercut scene.

Because it's a lot more relatable than some of the other stuff. Croquet ball in the nuts? A rare experience. Savage paper cut from a manila envelope? We've all felt that pain.

but also fuck you (unperson), Thursday, 22 July 2021 14:41 (four years ago)

i will totally go see this and i apologize for nothing

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 22 July 2021 15:26 (four years ago)

wow josh i must have missed that whenever you talked about it - does the stuff w/your sister spoil your enjoyment of it at all?

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Thursday, 22 July 2021 15:33 (four years ago)

I feel like Knoxville and Steve-O are probably good guys. The rest all seem like people you would not want to know IRL

I am so excited for this movie. Hope Wee Man gets a decent amount of screen time. I rewatched two of these recently and honestly I think my favourite scene was him not getting that the chair was electric and that he was convinced they had a secret card throwing machine.

JK is clearly a buster keaton devotee, one of the reasons I love his bits so much is how cinematic his version of jackassian showmanship tends to be

I'm all in, but why so many archive clips in the trailer? I think I read that there would be archive Bam, to get around the bad blood, but seemed like a lot of old stuff I recognized in there, too.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 27 April 2026 16:34 (two months ago)

I think a lot of it is going to be Greatest Hits

EsBeeKid (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 27 April 2026 16:36 (two months ago)

the title might be a hint at that, whenever they get around to revealing it

uploading this content requires perseveration (sic), Monday, 27 April 2026 17:25 (two months ago)

tangentially related to this revive, also bcuz i don't know where to post about this on ILX -- did anyone see the movie The Piano Accident (2025) starring Adèle Exarchopoulos? not to give away too much but the lead character and conceit of the film is inspired by 'jackass' -- and i mean that literally, in flashbacks we see the lead as a young girl watching 'jackass' episodes w/ her father. it's more of a satire of mr. beast core but also touches on something real about 'jackass' culture that i haven't seen woven into the plot of a fictional film, great movie and Adéle is incredible, i think johnny knoxville would be proud

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 April 2026 17:32 (two months ago)

Odds n Sods movie gunna be, huh

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Monday, 27 April 2026 20:18 (two months ago)

one thing that always blows my mind about this show is that only 25 episodes were ever made, if I had to guess I would've said like 70

frogbs, Monday, 27 April 2026 22:26 (two months ago)

Seems odd to me that they've replaced Johnny Knoxville with Nick Lowe

joygoat, Thursday, 25 June 2026 19:59 (three days ago)

I know I’m always “hey there’s a podcast for that” but the Jackass guys are doing Jackass The Podcast that is on the history of the show - it’s honestly fascinating how FAR back they all go w each other

Like Spike Jonze - his connection to Tremaine started when he was 13; Wee Man worked in subscriptions at Big Brother magazine etc

And the 90’s skateboard/bmx era stories, and the stunts & stories from Big Brother mag days are great

I could listen to them all gasbag for days

I've mentioned it before, but I went to high school with a few of these dumbasses (though the one I was friends with was very smart). The bulk of them would have been ... class of '95 or so?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 June 2026 22:19 (three days ago)

Yeah they’re all between 50 & 55 now - like England, Knoxville, Wee Man, Pontus & Preston are all older but like Bam, Ehren, Dunn, DiCamillo are my age

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 25 June 2026 22:50 (three days ago)

i grew up skating and big brother was right up alley as a young dirtbag - it kind of blew mind when the guys who had made “shit” and “number two” and the guy who shot himself while wearing a bulletproof vest were on MTV

joygoat, Thursday, 25 June 2026 23:36 (three days ago)

This was tons of fun, both the old stuff, and the new stuff. A couple of utterly disgusting new skits, lol.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 June 2026 02:18 (yesterday)

Yay!

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 27 June 2026 03:27 (yesterday)

the cops busting in during the bar fight scene nearly made me fall out of my seat

frogbs, Saturday, 27 June 2026 05:49 (yesterday)

That was a surreal highlight.

I love how essentially one of the themes of the show is the weirdness and resilience of the human mind and body.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 June 2026 12:13 (yesterday)

There didn’t seem like too much new stuff. Dunno if that’s cos of Knoxville’s concussion or just a feeling that loads of stuff with the new guys didn’t really fit the theme.

Even though it was a bit like a greatest hits, I loved it. Felt quite emotional at the end, which I didn’t expect.

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 27 June 2026 20:22 (yesterday)

I think Knoxville specifically has been medically forbidden from doing a lot of the more dangerous stuff. Otherwise, I thought there was a good amount of new (and new nude) stuff. Ping pong ball in butt; little people fight; balance beam with nut taster; escape room from hell; lip injections; robot rectal exam; colonoscopy prep Twister; fat guy lowered on face game; naked pole vault; I'm sure more) Plus, of course, tons of stuff I'd either never seen (because it wasn't released) or that I'd forgotten about (like kidnapping Brad Pitt!).

I did notice that the last movie tried to introduce new members/fresh meat to the team, but I didn't notice more than Poopies getting much to do. Like Rachel Wolfson, she gets an opening credit showcase but literally does nothing for the rest of the movie. It doesn't help her that getting hit in the nuts is sort of the show's default go-to.

Anyway, I hope they release a comprehensive boxed set.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 June 2026 20:54 (yesterday)

Oh I adored some of the new stuff, it was just like a tv episodes worth, not a movie
