the self-analysis thing doesn't have to be like that. i used to get really bothered by that but now i just kind of chill with my thoughts, instead of letting them freak me out.

yup.

I can't remember the last time I smoked (or drank for that matter). Time to make a change.

i'm a little weirded out by the abuse of the medicinal marijuana system. everyone i know who smokes weed in l.a. has a card and a bullshit reason for needing it. i'm not sure if i'm weirded out for any good reason, though, like if it actually affects those who genuinely can use marijuana for serious medical issues.

Natalie Angier wrote a nice bit about her mother once, in a book of essays about mothers. It was a dear little piece about how her mother shared her cure for anorgasmia, which was smoking a joint beforehand.

existential eggs (Abbott), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:15 (sixteen years ago)

Such a mother-to-daughter talk would have made my early 20s much easier.

One of these days I will live in a state where it is not a crime for me to medicate my MS.

oh no

cool app (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:26 (sixteen years ago)

my question is does this use of the system by people who--it could be argued--do not "need" marijuana affect those who do. if not, i don't care about the issue.

(but get back to me once CA outright legalizes weed in the next few years. cuz its gonna happen)

the taint of Macca is strong (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:31 (sixteen years ago)

it's only weed,man.

carne asada, Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

honestly I think it helps. more demand = more availability and geographical convenience, which matters in LA.

and yeah I lol at the ads in the back of LA Weekly with, like, Well Dressed Businessy Black Guy and Well Dressed Businessy White Guy, but most of the "prescriptions" for "anxiety" are probably going to functionig people who use weed to self-medicate for anxiety anyway, so no harm no foul imo.

when does Oakland's marijuana business tax go into effect? it could be a real turning point once the $$ starts rolling in.

xpost I really can't see stoners having any affect on the sick unless the perceived 'abuse of the system' causes the medical marijuana laws to be repealed. it's not like there's going to be any shortage of weed (except in my pipe at the moment :( )

Pigbin Josh (herb albert), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:38 (sixteen years ago)

I am just really wary of participating in such a kinda-sorta-legal system. granted the CA prisons can't hold anymore non-violent drug offenders (lolz thx budget crisis!) but... yeah, I dunno get back to me when its REALLY legal.

Shakey I dig the lib-left SF paranoia, I really do, but the DA's office has been instructed by the Board of Supes to treat personal possession as their last priority in SF and if the Feds are after you, you have way too much weed on your hands.

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:45 (sixteen years ago)

oh yeah I know that and I'm cool with personal possession within my locale - but it seems a bit different down in LA. And even so, I dunno I just don't want my name on a list somewhere.

the taint of Macca is strong (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:48 (sixteen years ago)

there's gonna be some kinda huge legal showdown between the state of CA (which is obviously moving towards outright legalization) and the Supreme Court/DEA and I dunno how that's gonna shake out. Its possible CA's laws will get struck down and the Feds will strongarm the state... maybe not likely, but possible.

the taint of Macca is strong (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

as it is I just get free weed from my neighbor (who runs a pot club)

Love that guy!

the taint of Macca is strong (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

I think it will eventually be like gay marriage - 'cause I've met lots of right-wing dickweeds my age and younger who love weed. It's when the generation that was conned into thinking it was a rape drug used by 'colored' people to rape your daughter or at least corrupt her morals have passed that many of them, at least the ones who aren't abjectly cretinous anti-tax libertarians will want to tax and oversee like w/liquor. Plus, all those reddish states who like sucking on the Federal teat so much while espousing 'fiscal conservatism' may eventually be convinced that they could make mad cash growing.

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:54 (sixteen years ago)

yeah agreed about the demographic shift

lol this is me. despite all evidence to the contrary I FEAR THE MAN.

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 1 October 2009 20:59 (sixteen years ago)

you guys both live in the bay area tho xp

not sure the demographic shift is as true for young conservatives in alabama (etc.)

iatee, Thursday, 1 October 2009 21:01 (sixteen years ago)

I mean, I'm just going off anecdotal evidence here, but there seem to be VERY few people in my parents' generation who made it through the 60s-70s without smoking weed - including plenty of people who are hardcore conservatives now and aren't pro-legalization.

iatee, Thursday, 1 October 2009 21:06 (sixteen years ago)

Perhaps, so, iatee, but I still think they're outnumbered.

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Thursday, 1 October 2009 21:07 (sixteen years ago)

Especially since there are many economic liberals/libertarians amongst California conservatives and independents who don't like big government telling them what to do.

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Thursday, 1 October 2009 21:09 (sixteen years ago)

all the polls I've seen have suggested that yeah we do have hope in california...I just think it has more to do w/ california's weird libertarianism than w/ national demographic changes
