I think Americans tend to be more respectful of non-American pronunciations than some other countries that are more homogenous.

Apart from putting on a Mario accent, how the heck else would one pronounce Passantino apart from the only way it can *be* pronounced?

Isn't the Spanish "u" much shorter than "oo" though? Wouldn't "Hewsteen" be better?

Mexican pronunciation of Spanish is different from the Spanish speakers in Europe. That is all I know about the Spanish language.

oh yeah i would pronounce the hoos in hoosteen differently than just hoos. so i voted jews.

say "hoosten" out loud - it's basically impossible to say it as "hooce-steen"

katherine helmand province (jaymc), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:12 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm not sure which way that goes

steamed hams (harbl), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:13 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah that was confusing but sara hell otm

wH1N1 g. swinegarten (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:18 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah but since "hoos" is derived completely from "hoosteen" it would make sense that one would pronounce "hoos" in the same manner that they would pronounce "hoosteen"

rather shipped (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:23 (fourteen years ago) link

you don't go from saying "juicebox" to "jewsbox"

rather shipped (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:23 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah but it's not hoos, it's HOOS

somewhere a poll is missing its wacky write-in vote (sarahel), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:25 (fourteen years ago) link

alright whatever - i can take solace in the fact that i'm not going around pronouncing HOOS wrong!! that would be mightily embarrassing imo

only defending the honor of "hoos" could drag me into one of these asinine pronunciation threads

rather shipped (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:26 (fourteen years ago) link

but i never said pronounce the hoos- in hoosteen like "juice."

steamed hams (harbl), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:26 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm just saying it's like a different word to me

I thought y'all knew it was short for Hoosteen (as in Justin) so I'ma assume some of you are retarded imo.

i'm sure the jewsteens can make that happen

lmao @ all of u

fwiw sarge has received voice mails from me declaring myself "u man HOOS" so he knows tmnt2 the secret of the hoos

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:37 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah but since "hoos" is derived completely from "hoosteen" it would make sense that one would pronounce "hoos" in the same manner that they would pronounce "hoosteen"

But what I'm saying is that you don't ever pronounce "hoos" as a discrete syllable in "hoosteen." Or at least I don't: I say it "hoo-steen." Which makes neither "hooze" nor "hooce" ideal; to be honest, I think I imagine the "s" as being vocalized only slightly.

katherine helmand province (jaymc), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:46 (fourteen years ago) link

^^ yep.

somewhere a poll is missing its wacky write-in vote (sarahel), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 23:47 (fourteen years ago) link

yes i also think of it as hoo-steen, not hoos-teen

rather shipped (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 1 October 2009 00:02 (fourteen years ago) link

that's still hoos like jews! ?

alex b. skeaton (tremendoid), Thursday, 1 October 2009 00:03 (fourteen years ago) link

just to get this straight: you pronounce it like you would pronounce 'Houston' the only difference being the 'een' instead of 'on' ('un')?

alex b. skeaton (tremendoid), Thursday, 1 October 2009 00:04 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean i know i'm arguing with homedude whose name it is but this is nyoos to me

alex b. skeaton (tremendoid), Thursday, 1 October 2009 00:05 (fourteen years ago) link
