My brother and my nephew (his son obv.) saw George Bush the first AND the Dalai Lama in one airport experience. Both waved at Gus, who was four at the time.
I expect he will be confused by this. Should I save Tibet or make money in oil? HMMM.

aimurchie, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark Heap on Wardour Street. That's kind of pathetic, isn't it? Must try harder.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I spotted a fella out of River city in the bar at the CCA on Saturday, reading the indie and smoking rollies.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

b3rnard butl3r was on the w7 with me the other morning. also, a priceless damon sighting but it's probably libelous or something like that.

i think people will be jealous of your Mark Heap sighting Mark, one woman especially - good job it wasn't Reece Shearsmith...

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 25 October 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil Babb came into our restaurant for a meal, when he came to the bar I went to serve him, clcked who it was, and instantly recalled his bollocks colliding at high speed with a goalpost back when he was playing for Liverpool. Naturally I started laughing. He asked me why I was laughing and I explained. He just grinned and said "yeah, I get that a lot."

Apart from that a bunch of footballers and rugby league players, and attendant wives, eat at ours. And one or two of the cast of hollyoaks. Not overly exciting.

N.B. I may have mentioned this before

Matt (Matt), Monday, 25 October 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Kaye Adams off Loose Women was on the same flight as me back from my holidays yesterday.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil Babb!

adam. (nordicskilla), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

That reminds me, did I ever mention that I had an AIM chat in, like, 1995 with someone who claimed to be Phil Rudd of AC/DC? I never knew why anyone would want to impersonate him -- he wasn't trying to pick me up or anything and seemed genuinely interested in whether the younger generation still listened to AC/DC -- so I always wondered if it was actually him.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

(I had no idea who he was, btw. I mean, I'd heard of AC/DC, but that's about it.)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Same thing happened to me but it was someone claiming to be in Polvo. I didn't know who they were.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 25 October 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

also, a priceless damon sighting but it's probably libelous or something like that.

That's a cruel thing to mention if you aren't going to dish!

PLEASE TELL

xpost I THINK SO

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 25 October 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

OK.

On Friday just gone, I took Alice swimming to Coral Reef, Bracknell.
(Dawn was at work, Amber at school). She enjoys the slides, and would
go down the fastest ones except she's not allowed to wearing armbands.
So, there we are in the jacuzzi bit, I see a girl in a red bikini who
looks vaguely familiar, but think no more of it. So anyway, we are queueing for the slide, and there she is again, with a sort of "you know me and you are not saying hello" puzzled look. I'm like, no I don't think so, but one thought does flash through. Anyway, after an hour or so, Alice and I get showered and dressed etc, and now the girl is outside in the hairdrying area, and now I realise. It was only when she had her clothes on, I realised it was Claire Grogan. (She spoke briefly to two young boys with her, so I'm now positive.)

p.s. she's a year younger than me and is looking OK on it...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 06:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It was only when she had her clothes on, I realised it was Claire Grogan

line of the day, and it's not even 10am :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 07:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I was just having a fag break outside my office, and very poor comedian Jimmy Carr walked past looking puzzled. Five seconds later he came back the other way, still looking puzzled. I expect he was lost.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

He'll work that into his routine at some point...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

That guy from Cast who used to be in The La's asked me if I wanted to join his pub quiz team last Monday.

Deadaismus? (Dada), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw John Peel outside HMV in Oxford Street yesterday - he's tiny and gnome-like. Then when I went inside HMV I saw Danny Kelly (who, conversely, is enormous) knocking over a rack of Morrissey CDs (more in sorrow than in anger I reckon) then shuffling off like a naughty school boy, leaving a member of staff to pick up the fallen CDs.
-- Dataismus (kcoyne3...), October 15th, 2004.

Deadaismus? (Dada), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Outside the Chandos today, coming the other way: ROY HATTERSLEY!

Seconds later, I really wished I had dared to stop him and thank him for good Guardian columns and his accidental progress into such a progressive voice.

the bellefox, Wednesday, 27 October 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, I forgot, I saw Ed from ILX on Tottenham Court Road, near Goodge St, at lunchtime yesterday. He didn't see me.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

that's a different thread JimD!

i saw the irish bloke who was on pop idol last year who was rubbish and had long blonde hair and bad toe nails* by piccadilly circus yesterday...

*he went for a pedicure on "the salon" which mrs carsmile watched religiously

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Er...I figured that since Ed is an ILX celebrity, he could go on the "Why is there no ILX celebrity sighting thread?" thread. :)

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

dougie vipond, walking out of the buchanan galleries car park.

I smiled at him and he seemed to follow me, all the way to the start of sauchiehall street, where I lost him.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Patricia Potter, one of the only fanciable Holby City cast members, King's Road, 2 weeks ago.

Richard X at AnnieFAP.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

He only seemed?

You should ask him, about his one-time colleague, one time, comrade.

the bluefox, Wednesday, 27 October 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw richard fairbrass standing outside a sandwich shop on exmouth market chatting away happily. He was looking quite untouched by the years that have flown by since 'I'm too sexy..' was in the charts.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know who Dougie Vipond is.

I am keeping an eye open for Wendy Craig, but no luck yet.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

hey 57 7th, was he weaving around and carrying a nearly empty bottle of Jack? This is how I picture him.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, I would've liked to have seen him that way too, but he was as business as he could be, fitting suit, sculpted hair, etc. He could have given a policy speech the way he looked.

57 7th (calstars), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

dougie vipond is on "sportscene" or some other kind of "football" programme.

he used to drum, with deacon blue, and I assume PF is intending a "ricky ross" or, at least, I hope he is.
