Has anyone tried Photogene? My dad said it was fantastic, but I doubt his views on such things. :-)

oooh loving the camera apps!
Toronto-area people can get a fairly reliable TTC (transit) app in the form of Red Rocket.
I don’t have many other apps to recommend but I love playing Freecell & Euchre. I'm so cool. I also made ILX look like it has an app, by choosing "Add to Home Screen" in the browser.

I'm addicted to Worms. Other than that just get apps for web pages you might use regularly - Flickr, Facebook, Twitter(ific) etc etc.
― Sickamous (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 28 September 2009 18:38 (sixteen years ago)
woah never actually searched for ILX app - thank you gbx!

so what's the consensus best to-do app right now? I see that Things gets some love upthread, any other contenders?
― baout.com (dyao), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 10:31 (sixteen years ago)
Long time Remember the Milk user. You have to be a subscriber to the website though, which I think is 10 a year. Worth it, for me.

I have joined your ranks. Google maps thinks I live about 20 mins' walk from where I actually am. Any map app recommendations?
― ljubljana, Saturday, 3 October 2009 04:10 (sixteen years ago)
I pulled the trigger on Things; let's see if I'm mature enough to handle it or is it gonna be $10 down the pipe
xp do you live in a city? GPS isn't as accurate in urban settings cause the signals bounce around off the skyscrapers

Anyone have any leads on an alarm clock that doesn't have a gigantic snooze button? I need something that will make me, I don't know, do a few math questions before I can turn the alarm off. I am a repeated hit-snooze offendor.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 3 October 2009 13:42 (sixteen years ago)
^^^^snoozed for 4 hours last week (I work late evenings, don't you judge me)
― ENERGY FOOD (en i see kay), Saturday, 3 October 2009 13:48 (sixteen years ago)
Twice this week I snoozed for an hour straight, and my alarm goes off at the latest possible time that I *must* get up to get to work on time! :P Searches for 'alarm' and 'wake up' in app store brought a bunch of alarm apps that brag about their "whole-screen snooze button." That's not what I need!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 3 October 2009 13:53 (sixteen years ago)
xp dyao, yes, I live in DC - no skyscrapers to speak of but probably enough buildings to bounce off unhelpfully.
― ljubljana, Saturday, 3 October 2009 14:16 (sixteen years ago)
things, probably like most productivity apps, makes most sense if you just give in to it its constraints and what its forcing you to do. i like it cause its good for day to day, short term stuff.

netnewswire (if you're into RSS)
Hmm: I see the update for this has finally appeared. I gave up on it some time ago in favour of Byline, and it's going to have to be all kinds of awesome to make me go back. I could put up with its occasional crash-happiness and sluggishness 18 months ago when I didn't really have any alternative, but Byline -- which isn't perfect by any means -- totally eclipses it.
However. I'll give the update a go and see how I get on.

big JG likes it: http://daringfireball.net/linked/2009/09/24/nnw-iphone
― caek, Saturday, 3 October 2009 15:44 (sixteen years ago)
how about you just don't hit the snooze button and wake the fuck up
― cutty, Saturday, 3 October 2009 15:58 (sixteen years ago)
shit, I never thought of that. thanks cutty!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 3 October 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)
oops there isn't an app for that
― cutty, Saturday, 3 October 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)
Think that JG love is more about him being pals with Brent S (NNW maker) than it actually being any cop. Guy made NNW, everybody loved him, he was bought out by Newsgator and I guess he descended into corporate lunacy, because all his software got crappy and he stopped updating. Guessing JG is trying to give him a break.
Latest reviews of NNW on the store are awful, too. Sticking w/byline.

Is the storm still going on about paying another $3 for the new version of Tweetie? Cheap-ass celebrities.
otm xp
speaking of Things wrt the Tweetie debacle: Things is worth more the $10 to me
― shaane, Sunday, 4 October 2009 01:42 (sixteen years ago)
NNW works wayyy better than it used to i'll tell ya that much
― gore vitalic (s1ocki), Sunday, 4 October 2009 02:10 (sixteen years ago)
and if you look upthread you'll find i was a real disser of it
― gore vitalic (s1ocki), Sunday, 4 October 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)
I bought Things and it's very lightweight and cool (though you do get the feeling "I paid $10 for 700kb?!")
but now I am crippling under the pressure of actually having to make a to-do list. is there an app for that?
― power, corruption & plies (dyao), Sunday, 4 October 2009 05:47 (sixteen years ago)
i do get that! it'd be nice to be able to upload related files or to have THE SWEETEST TRANSITIONS ever or something.
― shaane, Sunday, 4 October 2009 07:37 (sixteen years ago)
Hahah, woah, the new NNW is shocking. Just tried it there and within about two minutes it had done that annoying thing where the page I was reading gets "stuck" and it won't display the feeds list again until I quit and restart. It might be a tiny bit better than the previous one, but it feels half-finished and cobbled-together -- and some of the reviews on the iTunes store are frighteningly damning. (Some, in fairness, are written by idiots, but hey.)
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 4 October 2009 10:54 (sixteen years ago)
yeah the new NNW kinda blows.
I've used Things for about six months and am really happy I blew the money.
