yo gotti gotti! (Curt1s Stephens), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

So I saw Jennifer's Body last night. Diablo Cody is still up to her slangy dialog writing tricks, which blunted the impact of any horror movie scares the movie might have had. But as a comedy it made for a mildly amusing, enjoyable watch, even if not very LOL. I found the friction between the two tones interesting and it made me a fan of her style.

Also, Megan Fox really surprised me with how good an actress she is. But is it good acting, casting, or directing? and is there really much of a difference in all those things?

i rank this up there with 500 days of summer (which was even worse) as the film with the most cloyingly overplayed references to its characters' love of indie rock

yeah... you're right. i was able to ignore it in juno though, while the bile kept rising as I watched 500 days

I recently passed by the Milk and Honey store in Port Coquitlam where some of this movie was filmed. It's now gone - closed down after about 40 years. However there's a tattoo place close by called "Ink and Honey".

What a piece of shit movie. Fake cleverness, piss-poor dialogue masquerading as edgy, annoying and dislikable characters, and forced preciousness. Also that one song is a total rip-off of "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" from Oklahoma.

Lazarus Niles-Burnham (res), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 23:08 (fifteen years ago)

was at a video rental place the other day, and the clerk was watching the last act of juno. i'd been on the fence about the film at the time of its release and have halfheartedly defended it since, but holy shit is it grating! i sincerely regret anything nice i might ever have said about it. ellen page's performance is horribly forced, and the dialogue an agonizing parade of desperate would-be cleverness. oh god, and the saccharine, cutie-pie nonsense music, it never stops. the whole thing is trying so hard in every moment to be smart, hip and endearing that it becomes a terrible form of abuse. the worst part was that i had come into the store near the end of the film and was glad when it was over, only to have the dude start the damn thing up again, like he was studying it. chased me right back out into the street (which may have been the point, i dunno).

contenderizer, Thursday, 23 December 2010 01:03 (fifteen years ago)

it's hard to believe that so many people see this movie as an honest statement

holy crap, I never noticed that, you are correct

akm, Thursday, 23 December 2010 02:59 (fifteen years ago)

The best part of this whole movie was JK Simmons but he's pretty much the best period.

this isnt a bad movie - like, it's not for me at all, but i expected it to be a lot worse - thought the jen garner character was pretty well handled

had NO idea it made that much money though. i knew it was pretty successful but jesus.

i can't fathom why it got oscar love, but part of the reason I can't hate this movie hardcore is that I'm down with those precocious teens getting a movie catered directly to them

da croupier, Thursday, 23 December 2010 13:15 (fifteen years ago)

Jennifer's Body, now there was a piece of shit

da croupier, Thursday, 23 December 2010 13:16 (fifteen years ago)

the 21-gun salute the academy gave john hughes makes a lot more sense after giving this best screenplay

da croupier, Thursday, 23 December 2010 13:18 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I didn't think this was horrible or anything. I just wasn't really into it. Plus, I really hate Ellen Page. That might have had something to do with it.

see i'd be fine if this at all sounded or acted like teenagers. but wtf was the dialogue? most of the characters sounded like they had a mental disability. it was like cody watched buffy, decided that wasn't enough and tried to do uber whedon dialogue and forgot to make any of it sound logical or make sense.

i don't care that this movie was twee, or lol pro-life or whatever. i just wish that for a precocious teen movie is should have been written to at least be like precocious teens and not some old skank strippers idea of what precocious teens sound like.

lol harsh. However, I'd have to watch it again but I think I kind of agree with that. I remember the dialogue bugging the shit out of me and thinking "nobody talks like that!".

ENBB, Thursday, 23 December 2010 13:33 (fifteen years ago)

yeah the dialogue is not good, but lol @ ppl who save their rage and vitriol for fuckin' juno
