x-post to lorax

The cliches weren't about the characters acting as normal, the cliches were all about mental illness stereotypes and "finding yourself"-type stuff. Listing out all the things that were not cliches due to breaking the series mold or not fitting with the Cuckoo's Nest shit kind of overlooks the main part of it.

Crusty misanthrope learns to love and be loved, and in doing so accepts his own shortcomings. Throw in a bunch of feel-good scenes where he unexpectedly relates to the patients like the awkward rapping.

mh, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 21:06 (sixteen years ago)

eh, entertaining though

beauty of grunge = abandon (CaptainLorax), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 21:08 (sixteen years ago)

I remember taking a drama class and every type of conflict was mentioned. Every type of possible drama. (some number like 47 types??)
Repetition is inevitable. It's all about whether you enjoyed it or not. We are trained to rate how much we like something by comparing it to similar things. I just want to remind the world to take something for what it is and not for what it is similar to.

beauty of grunge = abandon (CaptainLorax), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 21:15 (sixteen years ago)

you're projecting, mang

mh, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 21:18 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, kinda. no offense back there. I wasn't re-reading what Hawkwindz wrote. would have notice more of exactly what you were mentioning mh

beauty of grunge = abandon (CaptainLorax), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 21:19 (sixteen years ago)

"awkward rapping."
give the man a break--he's rapping in a foreign language practically!

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 21:22 (sixteen years ago)

I kind of dug the German piano playing chick.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 21:23 (sixteen years ago)

Some friends watched Run Lola Run a loooot during college so I was enthused about Franka Potente showing up.

mh, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 21:29 (sixteen years ago)

She played a mental hospital worker in The Princess and the Warrior. The sex scene in that movie was disturbing on so many levels

beauty of grunge = abandon (CaptainLorax), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 21:31 (sixteen years ago)

the princess and the warrior is one of my favorite movies.

i didn't think the sex scene in house was so bad - it's supposed to be awkward, duh. the stereotypes were a bit much. i just feel like we have a relapse coming on in future eps - i hope so bc i want more andre braugher.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:05 (sixteen years ago)

the stereotypes were a bit much.

Yeah, how come there's never TWO PEOPLE with the same condition when a tv show explores that setting. There's always neatly one representative of each kind of ailment.

That aside, I thought it was a great premiere episode. Happy ending and all.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:07 (sixteen years ago)

I know the sex scene was supposed to be awkward btw.. that's why I said it was disturbing

beauty of grunge = abandon (CaptainLorax), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:48 (sixteen years ago)

oh gawd, nvm you were talking about the one on House. Got it confused with The Princess and the Warrior.

beauty of grunge = abandon (CaptainLorax), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:49 (sixteen years ago)

re: The ethical dilemma tonight; not much of an ethical dilemma.

Mordy, Tuesday, 6 October 2009 01:04 (sixteen years ago)

i'm glad that i am not the only one who sees the similarities b/w gregory house & dexter morgan ... also, yay more cameron & chase and double yay thirteen being kicked to the sidelines.

Sealegs Tetrazzini (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 01:05 (sixteen years ago)

I think I hate Foreman.

existential eggs (Abbott), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 05:39 (sixteen years ago)

In what fucking way is making your girlfriend lose her job (by firing her) a way to save a relationship?

existential eggs (Abbott), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 05:42 (sixteen years ago)

Foreman's turning into a joke. I have no idea why Chase tried to save the guy's life, also no idea why the dicatator wasnt arrested while in the hospital. All in all, the guy deserved a painful death, and he got it.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 6 October 2009 13:54 (sixteen years ago)

also no idea why the dicatator wasnt arrested while in the hospital.

the same reason why no-one arrests castro or any other foreign despot when they set foot in america?!?

this was the first time in a long time i didn't mind Foreman (plus he's ALWAYS been a douchebag) ... but maybe i'm just too relieved that there wasn't as much Thirteen and more Cameron/Chase than has been usual for the past few seasons.

Sealegs Tetrazzini (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 16:32 (sixteen years ago)

i mean, Foreman is this show's Janice Soprano -- he's unlikeable and does/says cringeworthy things, that's his CHARACTER.

Sealegs Tetrazzini (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 16:34 (sixteen years ago)

OK, the show has just jumped the shark and there's no turning back. Chase killed an African dictator? WTF??

James Earl Jones was friggin awesome though.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Friday, 9 October 2009 22:21 (sixteen years ago)

And part of Chase's rationale was to be cool with his wife. Can you imagine arguing about that before sex, whether you should have let him die?

existential eggs (Abbott), Friday, 9 October 2009 22:30 (sixteen years ago)

reading this thread is making me hate Foreman but I'll probably just go back to thinking he is your everyday boring guy

oh yeah, Chase is awesome now. I pretty much forgot that I liked him since he has been gone for so long. Now that I think about it, there was a time when Foreman was a jerk who pretty much said he couldn't care less about any of the other co-workers outside of work (Chase and Cameron). I never had a problem with 13 but she acts like the type of girl who never laughs at anything. I think half the actors on the show are boring but it's somewhat excusable because it makes the hospital somewhat more realistic and you have to expect a drama to have serious characters like that.

I'm the best maaaayne, I did it (CaptainLorax), Friday, 9 October 2009 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

Last week's episode (when he took House's job and fired 13) was probably #1 on the all-time list of "Foreman acts like a douche" episodes. I guess I love to hate the guy, although his relationship with 13 isn't interesting at all.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 10 October 2009 00:22 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

Cameron is gone (aside, her first name was Allison?)

House: Poor Jennifer Morrison has publicly confirmed that her time as Dr. Allison Cameron on House is done. Jen's admission came in an interview on The Bonnie Hunt Show that's scheduled to air Wednesday. Bonnie asked, "You're done with House?" and Jen replied: "I am as far as I know, yes."

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 06:05 (sixteen years ago)

so she's gonna leave chase for killing james earl jones?

sandlot rip

tehresa, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 06:08 (sixteen years ago)

preview of next week's episode had chase & cameron both leaving the hospital

abanana, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 07:33 (sixteen years ago)

aside from the james earl jones killing shit, i have kind of enjoyed having the old gang back together.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 13:09 (sixteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Oh snap, it's a House, M.D. holiday marathon on USA. Yesssss.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Thursday, 26 November 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

I'm still not cool with Cameron being gone. ;_;

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 November 2009 18:47 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah I really didn't like that whole storyline and didn't think it was very believable that she would leave Chase over that or in that way. That said, she made me cry when she said goodbye to both him and House. Damn her!

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Thursday, 26 November 2009 18:56 (sixteen years ago)

so far, this is the worst season yet

4 > 1 > 2 > 5 > 3 > 6

i am beginning to like this show

season 4, huh?

being being kiss-ass fake nice (gbx), Monday, 7 December 2009 05:27 (sixteen years ago)

the episode from the perspective of wilson was insane - how his apt was just totally filthy and jacked up all of a sudden, and that insane scene with the old hispanic man shouting nonsense in spanish while house accused him of being a tennis player...?

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Monday, 7 December 2009 21:40 (sixteen years ago)

i am beginning to like this show

Am wondering if this is for the same reasons that I have taken more of an interest in this show, since they are no longer talking in fancy medical gibberish so much as in stuff you learned like a week before you saw the episode sometimes.

Or, you know, all of the sassmouthy remarks, those are also fun.

C-L, Monday, 7 December 2009 21:48 (sixteen years ago)

The doctor who does medical reviews of House episodes had the most awesomely corny illustrations for the Wilson episode.

no that is pretty much exactly it, it's fun to follow along now! esp the neuro stuff

Does anyone else get the impression last night's episode launched a lot of House/Wilson slash?

sedentary lacrimation (Abbott), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 04:44 (sixteen years ago)

More like inspired by a lot of House/Wilson slash, I'd say.

wanna be shartin' somethin' (WmC), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 05:29 (sixteen years ago)

They played Maggot Brain at the end. Very nice.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 15:02 (sixteen years ago)

That actually made me laugh out loud, which I suspect wasn't the intended effect.
I do watch the show for laughs though, so it was fine by me.

Øystein, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 15:28 (sixteen years ago)

Following it up with a show tune from Chorus Line was definitely done for laughs, so I think your reaction was dead-on!

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 15:29 (sixteen years ago)

this was the best episode of this season so far. and by best i mean funniest.

i didn't cringe once!

My godsister is on tonight so I will be watching for the first time ever... what can I expect?

┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐ (Steve Shasta), Monday, 25 January 2010 18:26 (sixteen years ago)

if you've seen that new sherlock holmes movie, it's like that but less fisticuffs.

Philip Nunez, Monday, 25 January 2010 18:29 (sixteen years ago)

Is she playing the psycho patient?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 25 January 2010 18:29 (sixteen years ago)

patient ill ---> House indifference ----> wrong diagnosis makes things worse ----> B-plot/character exploration leads to Wilson saying something ----> House figures it out around the :48 minute mark.

Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Monday, 25 January 2010 18:32 (sixteen years ago)

yep, she went off the deepend.
