What is good for lunch around 5th and 31st?

Ed - there is a really good vegetarian korean place right there (I know that sounds suspect, but I love it and am a huge carnivore) called hangawi- its a little expensive and fancy if you're just looking for a quick lunch tho

yeah someone needs to start taking me out to dinner or something.

nybc is okay. you're not that far from molly's (22nd and 2nd), which makes one of the best burgers in the city imo.

tiffin wallah, chennai garden, saravanaas are all good veg indian. kalustyan's has a cafe on the second floor, where you can get really tasty, enormous sandwiches and middle eastern platters. right near there is a branch of rice, but i've never tried it.

mishima on 31st and lex is pretty good for sushi, and a few doors down saburi (which is japanese-style chinese food) is supposed to have good cold noodles.

i love kalustyan's and am excited that's nearby. i tried rice yesterday and it was pretty good too.

la posada, on 3rd ave around 26th/27th, is fast "mexican" that's a step above the fresca tortilla places. they have a rice/beans/grilled meat plate that's a good, quick option.

l'annam (vietnamese) has a branch near there, and while most of the food is mediocre, the grilled pork chops are great and a great deal at lunch.

xpost - todaro's is good, but i wouldn't go out of the way for it. for sandwiches, this place is better and closer to where she'll be:

btw, 24th and Lex is Flatiron or Kips Bay, not Murray Hill

3rd avenue is considered the western boundary of kips bay, as far as i know.

and isn't it too far east to be flatiron?

it's the transition zone between the two, hence Curry Hill if anything. but it's definitely not Murray Hill, which ends several blocks North.

someone suggest a bar in the bedford-ish area that is sort of nice but not too $$$ for me to take my friend for bday drinks tonight. she is dining w/ her parents at aurora (i think?) first, so somewhere nearby would be good.

true - i think of murray hill as 34th street and above. so what the hell is that neighborhood? i think it's sometimes called "northern gramercy" by real estate agents, but that's clearly bullshit. wiki suggests "rose hill," which is cute.

i don't really want to go at all. i already did an all-day thing on sunday for her bday... i don't know why i've been 'invited' to take her out again. also i'm going to get the sloppy end of things as she met someone for drinks earlier and will be coming from dinner w/ her parents where she will surely also drink. so maybe a not too fancy place?

Liked Robin Du Bois. Not the best country french food I ever had but good, reasonably priced and awesome back garden.

Sandwich from lamazou today - awesome!

so i tried the famous halal chicken & rice cart on friday, the one @ 53rd & 6th in manhattan, now operating during the day too. gotta admit it was tasty. next time I'll get a little more hot sauce and a lot less white sauce. but i'll be back in the area next friday. oh and a total bargain for $5, almost more than I could finish.

yeah no problem. I forgot to mention the "pork jowl nuggets" appetizer, basically deep-fried blobs of gristle .... maybe I shoulda figured that going in, but damn they were gross. I love pork belly and stuff but this was over the line

that one could be a matter of taste, though. the lobster roll was just a ripoff.

That cart's not Kwik Meal, right? That's 46th and 6th, and it's great. Though lately I've been going to Sammy's Halal in Jackson Heights all too often.
