Sonic Youth on tonight's Gossip Girl, in musical form. I, I, I think? Plus a namedrop to set it up, something about Rufus "opening for Sonic Youth" or I dunno I wasn't really paying attention. Life, it's bigger than you and you are not me.

Gives the episode a weirdly suspenseful "extended cringe" quality...

Contenderizer, why do you think Vanessa is hideous? Yes on the hair, but otherwise, why?

Vanessa bugs because she always seems bored with everything and can't be interesting to save her life. Her only alternative to bored seems to be frustrated or constipated or something. All the energy goes out of the show when she's talking. She's not as bad as her parents, of course, but close.

Anyway, I really dug the Sonic Youth bit. Kim was great as the minister, such a dry and scratchy presence in an otherwise lush environment. And "Starpower" was splendid, gave the final moments of the big wedding a super-creepy, David Lynch vibe. Plus irony, if yr into that. Definitely worth the wait.

It's done in a really cliched manner, but Vanessa's the only one who expresses interest in artsy movies and such. I don't agree with ya that "All the energy goes out of the show when she's talking". I like the contrast between her character and the others.

No, I was being a fucking idiot, was talking about Blake fucking Livesy from word one (did I mention that she's hideous?), and am currently feeling all mortified and terrible about it now.

But yeah, Vanessa is very cool, doesn't get near enough screen time, and seems this year to suffered a terrible blow to her hair. And I think the makeup dept. is mad at Taylor Momsen.

Agree that Blake Lively is just awful. I really loved Meester before this season, but somehow she's become autistic over the summer.

Meester's still great, but the show doesn't seem to know what to do with her (or itself) since graduation, and that's probably throwing her off.

I like Vanessa, kind of the only reason to watch this show. Unless you like sociopaths (my tolerance is limited).

I cannot stand Vanessa. Even though Dan often rides his high horse he's self-deprecating and funny enough to at least be charming. I know the show needs a conscience in order to not turn into total satire but even when I should root for her I can't.

Now Dorota on the other hand, she is highly underrated.

also, i would like to point out that blair's "if it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck" speech at the party was ripped off a famous old 90210 scene where brenda says the same thing to kelly after she finds out she'd been kickin it with dylan

and girl, i would never make the mistake to underrate Dorota. oh and i love how chuck is now the moral compass of the show

Weird. Vanessa's pretty much the only character I like in this show atm. I actually can't stand Blair. She's gorgeous and frequently entertaining I suppose, but she's essentially a sociopath.
