Friends > All Friends > Create New List to make your various lists.
Then go to Settings > Privacy Settings > Profile and you can change the privacy settings for each element listed.
So, for example, for "Wall Posts," I click Edit Custom Settings, select "Only Friends" under the "Friends" heading, select "None of My Networks" from the drop down box, and then type and select "Family and Professional" in the "Except" box at the bottom.

gahhh that was what i was trying to figure out when my mum added me - but i couldn't get it to do lists! also: still no reply from momz, hope she hasn't seen that my mother-in-law is a facebook friend, or she'll be even more mad that i denied her.

OK, my stupid uncle has allowed his daughters (aged 8 and 10) to have Facebook accounts, which we all think is a very bad idea. Should I intervene and get them taken down? My uncle might grumble, but only briefly. Both girls are incredibly computer-literate and that's worth encouraging, but this seems pretty age-inappropriate to me.

an old high school friend of mine started a facebook account for her 6 yr old, which is just weird to me

Better facebook than Bebo, which is a hotbed of school bullying and doesn't have any way for kids to protect themselves.

My 11 yr old niece has a Facebook page, and it was an invaluable help when I gift-shopped for her. All the adults in her life are her FB friends. What could happen? It takes a FB village.

can I take a moment to vent about Facebook martyrs? A co-worker's home was partially burned down last weekend, leaving her and her family basically homeless. A fellow coworker kindly offered her a place to stay while their home is being built. Since that time, at least twice daily, the kindly-samaritan-coworker has been updating her facebook status with little dropped hints about 'entertaining houseguests', and 'oh I'm so tired but at least I get to take care of the 'new family' staying with me' ...and everyone piles on and says "oh your so sweet, oh you're so nice" blah blah blah. Maybe it's the Australian in me but DO the nice thing, or DON'T do the nice thing. Just STOP BLOODY FISHING FOR BLOODY COMPLIMENTS YOU COMPLIMENT WHORE.
that is all.

yeah...
It's .. I dunno, now everyone is their own TV station, with more viewers each than the average non-mainstream Freeview box channel...
I'm more amazed this thread is only three years old! First few posts being "hey guys, this new thing" and "oh, I saw something about this" and "oh what is it?" and stuff...

What I hate is that Facebook statuses really show the divide between horribly jaded internet people who take nothing too seriously (maybe to everyone's detriment) and really naive and "not used to this whole internet thing!" types who aren't used to leg-pulling and detachment as a constant form of online communication.
― Cunga, Friday, 28 August 2009 07:16 (sixteen years ago)
I really like the description 'horribly jaded internet people who take nothing too seriously'

― mookieproof, Friday, 28 August 2009 07:34 (sixteen years ago)
yeah but it also describes a certain broader culture that ilx shares w/ a large % of the english-speaking internet. ilx didn't invent ironic jpgs.
― iatee, Friday, 28 August 2009 07:37 (sixteen years ago)
Ah, but back in the day, people used to show each other ironic pictures cut from newspapers, on bus journeys...

I'm inclined to think most of the really bizarre ones are hacked accounts. Not to mention that we can see the "Delete" link on that one, which means that "Shawna" would have taken the screen capture. Takes all the fun out of legitimately bizarre//lame stuff.

Didn't 4chan set about hacking the accounts of a Christian mailing list they got the details to? A lot of them come from that, I think.

I don't know, just seems that a passive-aggressive Facebook comment doesn't exactly seem like the best way to address the situation.

That's because (a) I was never a fan of Michael Jackson and (b) actually enjoyed the odd Patrick Swayze movie (namely "Red Dawn" and "Donnie Darko" ... if the latter can be referred to as a "Patrick Swayze movie.")
Michael Jackson meant nothing to me other than irritation.
