oh yeah Sennott is great (as usual), forgot about her.

I found it pretty annoying for the first half, tbh, though it won me over a bit more by the end. Performances were mostly strong, and I usually like movies with this kind of pressure-cooker momentum, but this one just felt exhausting and without much to say other than "Isn't this technically impressive?" and "Hey look, it's Paul Shaffer!" (Though I did love the casting of Paul Rust as Shaffer.)

I also liked JK Simmons smirking Milton Bearle who was in the film for absolutely zero reason

his dancing scene might actually be my favorite scene in the movie

bonus points for Kaia Gerber who is there only to be pretty, which is also why the person she played (chevy's then-fiance) was around to begin with.

oh, and the nod to the llamas and abe lincoln was a nice touch.

Seriously though, it feels like a secret theme to this--as evidenced by Beatle, the bit with Tracy Letts as Herb Sargent, and the phonecall from Carson--is Generational Friction, which remains relevant today in age of OK Boomer.

The funny thing is that Berle was just 68 in '75, which is younger now and Lorne & all the OG cast today.

Eh? If anything anything the villains are the Berle & the network guys. Carlin, Henson, and Kauffman who literally comes to save the day are fellow travelling freaks to the main cast/crew.

Chloe was great but I don’t think they always knew how to utilize her properly.

Troast was the single new cast member from last season. Most of her handful of standout sketches involved her singing abilities, and it seemed like she could have grown into player not unlike Aidy Bryant or maybe even Kate McKinnon.

Molly Kearney was the first non-binary cast member. It seems that they had been hired to take over for Aidy, but it didn't really take. It seems like they're most memorable contributions were occasional Weekend Update commentary as themselves talking about their family.

(I don’t have any space or time for DC but it just seems like bad luck to have him do the first monologue after the election.)

also before the last time, he'd only really just started doing the transphobic shit in his set in his tour on 2015, and at the time, no, it didn't seem harmless, but felt like more of a hurtful, cheap laugh that he could snap out of with proper coaching or something. hence why most of us applauded his 2016 appearance. now that he's made intentional transphobia and outright hate speech a core component of his act, it'd be tone deaf for him to appear on SNL.

people were willing to give him a second chance perhaps after his George Floyd special, but he squandered that goodwill really fast.

I wonder what her style of comedy would look like in a couple of years, considering how her popularity coincides with a horror renaissance in real-time. Films like The Substance have been released to widespread acclaim, Love Lies Bleeding has made it into the queer body horror hall of fame, and Weird Girls are having their resurgence on TikTok. It seems like people are finally giving Gross Girls their flowers- so what does Sarah Sherman want from the world? “Hopefully, in the next few years, I'll be able to do a bunch of crazy stuff on SNL, make a bunch of crazy movies, make a crazy stand-up special, and as long as I have a small group of crazy little bisexual teenagers who come to my show and bringing me eyeball gifts, we good.”

John Mulaney is the most mediocre comic. I mean he’s fine! He’s not altogether terrible. I’ve seen worse. He certainly thinks he’s a once-in-a-lifetime genius, though…

Wait am I crazy or was Mulaney's monologue.... really bad? I've seen that guy be funny before! And this was just kind of, I dunno, twitchy and declamatory with maybe two or three good jokes sprinkled in?

Agree Mulaney’s monologue felt random and mostly unfunny, but overall it was a good episode and Tim Kaine was by far the highlight

Mulaney hasn't been funny since he sobered up. He's the Aerosmith of comedy.

Had to look it up, but Gardner is the current longest-tenured female cast member, and only behind Kenan, Mikey Day, and Jost/Che as the longest-served in this year's cast.

It does feel like she and Chloe Fineman are both actively trying to get in all the sketches like peak airtime Wiig/McKinnon.

Yah Heidi has been there for years now and has not displayed the “gusto” she is doing on the 50th. Seems like the pressure is on. Speaking of “going for it” the port authority musical was swinging for the fences but was a strike out.

Mulaney's not mediocre, imo. He's very funny and the last episode he hosted was very funny. But this one wasn't very funny. Lots of sketches where I either didn't laugh or was trying to find a reason to laugh.

Marcello Hernandez, I thought, was very funny on Weekend Update. A highlight on an otherwise weak episode.

Yeah that was easily the worst of his Broadway skits (you dont HAVE to do one every time my guy), salvaged slightly by Fineman’s Chalamet.
