love the corporate jargon, y'all

CBS News says it will be up to Vance and Walz to fact-check each other in veep debate

if you can't be bothered to fact-check interviewees and hold them accountable for their lies you shouldn't be allowed to run a news business imo

Judge Judy, executioner (stevie), Monday, 30 September 2024 15:15 (one year ago)

yeah, but when they fact check Republicans people get mad at them. Did you ever think of that?

There’s a Monster in my Vance (President Keyes), Monday, 30 September 2024 15:18 (one year ago)

it also means that vance can do the trump trick and just say that everything that walz says is wrong/untrue/a lie and nobody will be able to stop him during the debate.

scott seward, Monday, 30 September 2024 15:20 (one year ago)

He's gonna go hard at him for the "stolen valor" BS, try to put him on the defensive from the start I'm sure. Knowing he won't be fact-checked is total open invitation.

Blitz Primary (tipsy mothra), Monday, 30 September 2024 15:22 (one year ago)

If it's up to the debaters themselves to fact check then Walz should totally bust out the couch-fucking thing.

henry s, Monday, 30 September 2024 15:44 (one year ago)

Feels like Walz has much more room to attack Vance than either Harris had to attack Trump (she's boxed in by how people can't handle women or POC going on the offensive) or Vance has to attack Walz (Vance is repellent and people really like Walz). I mean who knows but I can see Vance attacking Walz backfiring badly.

he should print out a picture of a sofa, hold it up for the camera, and ask jd if he likes what he sees

hott ogo (voodoo chili), Monday, 30 September 2024 15:47 (one year ago)

he should paint lipstick and hair on that sofa.

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 September 2024 15:50 (one year ago)

Like Walz is a coach, and in America that sort of personality is allowed to lecture you, dress you down, call you out... it makes people like them even more. Vance has a quisling vibe and I never see those kinda guys come out ahead in a public argument even when the facts are on their side.

the absence of bikes (f. hazel), Monday, 30 September 2024 15:52 (one year ago)

I think Walz should treat the "debate" like a one-on-one interview. Answer the questions put to him, and if he's called upon at any point to respond to something Vance says, or even acknowledge Vance's existence, react with puzzlement. "Who? That guy over there? He has an opinion about something? Whatever. Like I was saying..."

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Monday, 30 September 2024 15:55 (one year ago)

Should Vance introduce himself to Walz with the line, "Put me in, coach. I'm ready to play!" Trump would win in a landslide

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 September 2024 15:55 (one year ago)

lol like Snickers from Hudson Hawk

So I had to play football for the coach

Should Vance introduce himself to Walz with the line, "Put me in, coach. I'm ready to play!" Trump would win in a landslide

read this as "Put me in, couch. I'm ready to play!"

Andy the Grasshopper, Monday, 30 September 2024 18:30 (one year ago)

Choogle is something Trump might say if he gets tongue tied talking about China and Google.

sorry to return to the topic of philip bump, but has he (or any other prominent fact checker) ever spoken about the seemingly pointless nature of all of his work? surely at some level he believes in the power of facts and reporting what seems to be the truth, the power of an informed public, etc. it might be why he went into journalism in the first place. has he reflected, publicly, on the experience of meticulously reporting tens of thousands of blatant lies ("The Washington Post's fact-checkers documented 30,573 false or misleading claims during his presidential term, an average of about 21 per day.[1][5][6][7]") and it having apparently ZERO influence on any voter?

z_tbd, Monday, 30 September 2024 18:35 (one year ago)

and to fact-check myself, when i say "philip bump", i also mean "daniel dale"

z_tbd, Monday, 30 September 2024 18:41 (one year ago)

Wanna hear my fact check, are you bumpin' that?

There’s a Monster in my Vance (President Keyes), Monday, 30 September 2024 18:53 (one year ago)

and to fact-check myself, when i say "philip bump", i also mean "daniel dale"

Do you mean Glenn Kessler instead of Philip Bump? Maybe Bump does fact-checks, too, but Kessler is "The Fact-Checker" for WaPo.

jaymc, Monday, 30 September 2024 19:22 (one year ago)

kessler has been pretty useless lately (maybe forever, dunno)

We have one suggestion so far for tomorrow's thread title:

"We don’t need these fartsniffers anymore" for October Thread Title.

NYT endorses Kamala Harris. Here's why that's bad etc.

Pierre Delecto, Monday, 30 September 2024 20:16 (one year ago)

Someone did suggest "Arby's in your pants"

Not sure if that's ancient history by now.

Arby's In Your Vance

Charlie Hair (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 30 September 2024 20:21 (one year ago)

Is there...any way we could not do that for a whole month?

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Monday, 30 September 2024 20:45 (one year ago)

same with fartsniffers

There’s a Monster in my Vance (President Keyes), Monday, 30 September 2024 20:47 (one year ago)

I know we're all tired of Trump quotes but "One rough hour — and I mean real rough" has to be a contender

There’s a Monster in my Vance (President Keyes), Monday, 30 September 2024 20:51 (one year ago)

"I keel you" has legs.

henry s, Monday, 30 September 2024 20:59 (one year ago)

It sucks that the VP debate isn't tonight (damn football!), because you know there'll be some good title content there.

Charlie Hair (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 30 September 2024 21:02 (one year ago)

its on my birthday though. yay?

scott seward, Monday, 30 September 2024 21:05 (one year ago)

"they're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats" for thread title, it can be nothing else

Too bad we can't use video or images, because <KAMALA REACTIONS>

Charlie Hair (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 30 September 2024 22:03 (one year ago)

don't start the new thread until tomorrow night after the debate imo

WmC, Monday, 30 September 2024 22:08 (one year ago)

can we create another thread for it?

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 September 2024 22:12 (one year ago)

Sounds like a concept of a plan.

Charlie Hair (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 30 September 2024 22:13 (one year ago)

don't do cats and dogs. ugh.

scott seward, Monday, 30 September 2024 22:15 (one year ago)

i like the prison of glass line. to buy aspirin.

“You know, in New York, you can’t walk into a drugstore now,” Trump said. “It’s like you’re in a prison of glass. If you want to buy aspirin, you have to wait 45 minutes for a clerk to come up and open, because of what’s gone.”

He said he recently knew of a tenant on Wall Street who was forced to close due to rampant thefts that he complained are not prosecuted by the courts.

“And the police aren’t allowed to do their job,” Trump complained. They’re told if you do anything, you’re going to lose your pension. You’re going to lose your family, your house, your car.”
