The former brooklyn borough president and a congressman from Brooklyn likely owe each other favors.

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2024 16:48 (one year ago)

maybe this is Jeffries' Pelosi move during June's Bidengate, i.e. "Mayor Adams has to decide what he wants to do for the good of NYC," etc. Or the Adams people have photos of Hakeem kissing teenage boys.

im sure theyll all be calling for his resignation before long just not sure why youd put out that inane press release

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2024 16:50 (one year ago)

who was was borough president when i lived there marty markowitz he was hilarious always calling brooklyn the greatest city on earth taking juniors cheesecake to the dome

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2024 16:51 (one year ago)

Mostly joking about favors. I don’t get the impression there is dirt on Jeffries. I think he just sucks and is incredibly cautious and he’s dealing with someone who 1) knows him way back 2) is completely insane and dgaf during an election year.

Watch hochul say and do absolutely nothing too.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 26 September 2024 16:51 (one year ago)

Apparently Adams had his staff call him Mr President when he was borough president. Note the bp’s main job is providing cover for cops to park on the sidewalk at borough hall.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 26 September 2024 16:53 (one year ago)

I think that press release is the first in a series where the tone will shift as we learn more

But I get where you’re coming from

If that bill introduced by Senator Wyden ever got signed into law, what are the odds that the Roberts Court would blandly declare it unconstitutional and expect the nation to pay fealty to their decision?

The Eric Adams anecdote that I will always remember:

"Curtis Mayfield at the Wingate Concert Series," Adams said when asked what his favorite concert was. "At that concert there was a rainstorm and the lights fell on Curtis Mayfield and they actually paralyzed him at that concert. He died a few years ago, but it was an amazing concert before that happened. Just so unfortunate."

A Los Angeles Times report about the concert noted that Mayfield had not yet begun performing when the rig fell on him. It's not clear what part of the performance Adams enjoyed before the accident took place.

Turkish Airlines is always the cheapest but even a flight from San Francisco to Toronto would somehow route through Istanbul and take 26 hours

I flew Turkish Airlines a few months ago. It was pretty nice.

Yeah my one experience on it was real nice. Way better food than U.S. airlines for one thing. If you're gonna be bribed by an airline, it's a pretty good one.

borough president is a guy who just like shows up at events

My Brooklyn borough president story is that when I was working as an usher at the 92nd St. Y, Adams' predecessor Marty Markowitz showed up at a comedy-night fundraiser. All the ushers had been given rubber arrows-through-the-head to wear, in keeping with the theme. Markowitz came through with a posse of staffers, and then a minute later one the staffers slipped back to talk to me and said Marty wanted one of the arrows for his kids or grandkids or whatever. I gladly relinguished mine, figuring that my boss would accept "Marty Markowitz wanted it" as an excuse for not wearing one. But yeah, that's what that job is, going around gladhanding and asking people to give you shit.

this is how you win

North Carolina’s State Board of Elections has removed 747,000 people from its list of registered voters within the last 20 months, officials announced Thursday in a press release.

The State Board of Elections in the release said the majority of those stripped from the rolls were deemed ineligible to be registered because they had moved within the state and did not register their new address, or because they did not participate in the past two federal elections, prompting an inactive status.

If you don't vote, you won't GET to vote

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 26 September 2024 18:25 (one year ago)

would be curious to see what the party breakdown of those removed people is. In AZ where they recently tried a similar stunt the large majority of the voters targeted to be purged were (wait for it).... old Republicans.

Pierre Delecto, Thursday, 26 September 2024 18:41 (one year ago)

NC also has a new photo ID voter law - and if you want to mail in a ballot, it has to be notarized or signed by two witnessess

Hakeem Jeffries is by all accounts an EXTREMELY skilled game player and knows what's up everywhere. I wouldn't assume he does ANYTHING without it ticking some box somewhere, it just might not be one that is apparent or makes sense.

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Thursday, 26 September 2024 21:36 (one year ago)

“Well, he thinks he’s really clever, and we’ve seen that, whether it was the awkward Diet Mountain Dew joke he made when he gave at his first solo campaign rally or a whole host of other things. He thinks he’s the smartest person in the room, and he’s just going to try and be smart and funny, and it just doesn’t work, because he’s not really that funny or smooth.

He’s going to scoff at a lot of points. Walz could make a fantastic point about Vance’s record on trade or labor, or the cost of living families are facing. And Vance will laugh it off like it’s something that really doesn’t matter and that everyone should be indifferent about. So he has a remarkable lack of sense of where voters are and what people are looking for out of their leaders.”

Meantime, noting this that Newsmax and Smartmatic settled the latter's lawsuit re 2020 elections a la Dominion/Fox, no money total given as yet:

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/26/business/media/newsmax-smartmatic-defamation-suit.html

As the piece notes, plenty of cases still on the books:

A Smartmatic lawsuit against Fox Corp and Fox News is expected to go to trial in New York in 2025.

Dominion has pending cases against Newsmax and One America News Network, as well as against Mike Lindell, the MyPillow founder and 2020 election denier; Sidney Powell, a former lawyer for Mr. Trump; and the former New York City mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, who advised Mr. Trump.

This is all important because basically with these channels already taking clear financial hits (not to mention ol' Rudy getting his financial clock cleaned re defamation by the election workers) I suspect the appetite to repeat the voting machine fraud point on any level this year is about nil or less than; if anything it would just add to the pending cases and Dominion et al going "Oh you'd like to pay even more money to us? Sure, thanks!"

interesting result out of AZ - it has Trump up by 3, but Gallego is beating Lake by 14

ultimately I feel like the final results never show vote splitting to that degree so maybe this is good for Harris

more good polls:

Well yeah he’s not gonna win by 14

frogbs, Friday, 27 September 2024 01:43 (one year ago)

It would be weird if there were a huge amount of people who hated Kari Lake but were cool with Trump

There’s a Monster in my Vance (President Keyes), Friday, 27 September 2024 01:59 (one year ago)

Aren't we seeing lots of weird poll results from places like Florida and, yeah, Arizona, where the voters overwhelmingly favor abortion rights but also at least equally favor Trump?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 27 September 2024 02:04 (one year ago)

I live in Arizona and people don’t like Kari Lake at all, she’s way less popular than Trump. It’s not going to be +14 for Gallego but he’s going to win
