Melania is genuinely strange, she's the one person in that family/orbit who does not seem to give a fuck about politics at all. every First Lady "duty" she was supposed to do she did in the most slapdash and uncaring way possible. didn't give a shit about the kids in cages thing, definitely didn't give a fuck about Christmas, and the one time she had to give a speech she just plagiarized Michelle Obama. the irony of that probably didn't even occur to her. shes also visibly disgusted by her husband and makes no attempt to hide it. she may be an even odder person than Donald himself.
― frogbs, Thursday, 19 September 2024 03:05 (one year ago)
I don't know, I find some of those (not giving a fuck about Christmas, being visibly disgusted by Donald Trump) pretty relatable.
― Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Thursday, 19 September 2024 03:09 (one year ago)
for sure but it's her refusal to pretend that's really strange, hard to think of anyone else in political life like that. then again we've never had a president who married a woman just because she's a supermodel before
― frogbs, Thursday, 19 September 2024 03:26 (one year ago)
When I consider that her only experience as a 'political wife' was suddenly being married to the POTUS, after being a supermodel and coddled socialite with (apparently) no political interest at all, then her conduct as (ahem!) 'First Lady' doesn't seem all that odd to me. She doesn't have to pretend an interest so she doesn't. Donald doesn't care. I'm fine with it, too.

From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect.
They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

Can't get no respect, no respect... but I'm big is Israel
He claimed that Israel “will cease to exist” within two or three years if he does not win the election. “I have to tell you the truth and maybe you’ll be energised because there’s no way that I should be getting 40% of the vote. I’m the one that’s protecting you. These are the people who are going to destroy you and you have 60% of Jewish people essentially voting for that.”
Trump claimed that a recent poll in Israel was 99% favourable towards him, though it was unclear what poll he was citing. He went on to boast: “Everybody loves me. I could run for prime minister but I’d have to learn your language. That’s a tough language to learn … I’m the most popular person in Israel. But here it doesn’t translate. It is a strange thing.”

The thing about Trump and Jewish voters is I genuinely believe he's dumb and ignorant enough to think that there are as many Jews in the rest of the country as there are in New York, and that's why he's so worried about his numbers among them.

As the coronavirus tore through the world in 2020, and the United States and other countries confronted a shortage of tests designed to detect the illness, then-President Donald Trump secretly sent coveted tests to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his personal use.
Putin, petrified of the virus, accepted the supplies but took pains to prevent political fallout — not for him, but for his American counterpart. He cautioned Trump not to reveal that he had dispatched the scarce medical equipment to Moscow, according to a new book by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward.
Putin, according to the book, told Trump, “I don’t want you to tell anybody because people will get mad at you, not me.”

Four years later, the personal relationship between the two men appears to have persisted, Woodward reports, as Trump campaigns to return to the White House and Putin orchestrates his bloody assault on Ukraine. In early 2024, the former president ordered an aide away from his office at Mar-a-Lago, his private club and residence in Florida, so he could conduct a private phone call with the Russian leader, according to Woodward’s account.
The book does not describe what the two men purportedly discussed, and it quotes a Trump campaign official casting doubt on the supposed contact. But the unnamed Trump aide cited in the book indicated that the GOP standard-bearer may have spoken to Putin as many as seven times since Trump left the White House in 2021.
― scott seward, Tuesday, 8 October 2024 13:47 (one year ago)
From the CNN piece:
Woodward asked Trump aide Jason Miller whether Trump and Putin had spoken since he left the White House. “Um, ah, not that, ah, not that I’m aware of,” Miller told Woodward.“I have not heard that they’re talking, so I’d push back on that,” Miller added.Woodward writes that Biden’s Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines “carefully hedged” when asked about whether there were any post-presidency Trump-Putin calls.“I would not purport to be aware of all contacts with Putin. I wouldn’t purport to speak to what President Trump may or may not have done,” Haines said, according to Woodward.
