Donald Trump: Classic or Dud?

The apparent assassination attempt Sunday on former President Trump — the second in just two months — is raising questions about whether the rhetoric against him is going too far, and if politicians need to take steps to cool tensions.

The would-be assailant is obviously obsessed with the Ukraine war and has incompetently tried to become a recruiter of Afghan mercenaries for that war effort -- and when Trump was pressed hard just last week during the debate to declare in favor of a Ukraine victory, he flatly refused. Ignore that, beause the obvious conclusion for any moderate pundit is that people negging Trump on social media for a whole decade was what caused him to pick up his gun this week. Stands to reason.

First half of a short reading I was left yesterday for a grade 6 class:

Melania is genuinely strange, she's the one person in that family/orbit who does not seem to give a fuck about politics at all. every First Lady "duty" she was supposed to do she did in the most slapdash and uncaring way possible. didn't give a shit about the kids in cages thing, definitely didn't give a fuck about Christmas, and the one time she had to give a speech she just plagiarized Michelle Obama. the irony of that probably didn't even occur to her. shes also visibly disgusted by her husband and makes no attempt to hide it. she may be an even odder person than Donald himself.

I don't know, I find some of those (not giving a fuck about Christmas, being visibly disgusted by Donald Trump) pretty relatable.

When I consider that her only experience as a 'political wife' was suddenly being married to the POTUS, after being a supermodel and coddled socialite with (apparently) no political interest at all, then her conduct as (ahem!) 'First Lady' doesn't seem all that odd to me. She doesn't have to pretend an interest so she doesn't. Donald doesn't care. I'm fine with it, too.

better than the alternative

From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect.

They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.
