"None of this is inscrutable or hard to understand"

dan, if i had read the whole article i'm sure i would have understood it. when they mentioned the black mental hole i honestly thought they were talking about mental illness or depression. which i know about! it made sense to me that way. but they weren't talking about that. it was just unclear to me. the whole excerpt could have been written clearer.

i do have a recent example of people not seeing the obvious though. all the cat & dog stuff. it started to make me angry how people right and left seemed to be having such a good time with it. so many memes. so much laughter on television. i couldn't understand how people didn't get that it wasn't just Haitian refugees - people who had left often horrifying situations - who were at risk and in danger because of Trump and his people. that ANY person of color was at risk and in danger because of the memes and Trump's lies about Springfield. i kept waiting for someone to mention this on the news. i watch the news every day. its a sickness. nobody brought this up. just that there were bomb threats and that - truthfully - the Haitians were in danger. finally, days later, one person mentioned this. and that person was...Al Sharpton! a voice from my 80s past. he was the one and only person on t.v. - that i heard - who mentioned that this was a danger for ALL black and brown people in the U.S.
the news sucks though. i don't know why i would expect more.

Ryan Routh, I knew Bob Geldof. Bob Geldof was my friend. You're no Bob Geldof.

read that Rofer article, and thought it had some good substance… though also thought it begged certain questions about other issues that are considered third rails.

it is kind of interesting that trump being the first president in a while to purposely rile paramilitary types up has had a couple of them turn on him

lag∞n, Monday, 16 September 2024 01:46 (one year ago)

I just thinks it’s funny he keeps getting shot by supporters

It is objectively hilarious that this happened like an hour after he tweeted that he hated Taylor Swift

frogbs, Monday, 16 September 2024 01:59 (one year ago)

So the trump spin on this shooter is going to be that he was radicalized by the democratic party’s rhetoric around russiagate.

it owns that Trump's campaign is in a tailspin as he's telling supporters this election will be the most important day in history and he's just out there golfing. do his supporters ever take a second to reflect on that or what

frogbs, Monday, 16 September 2024 02:35 (one year ago)

Donald Trump is getting ratio’d on his own social media platform for his “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” post — including by his own supporters, who are baffled; they say it’s “disturbing” and “isn’t going to help” him win the election and are pleading with him to “stop the dumb shit.” pic.twitter.com/75jHOQy9cu

This Routh guy is a pretty interesting Lee Harvey Oswald type. Surely there will be lots of CIA op theories.

There’s a Monster in my Vance (President Keyes), Monday, 16 September 2024 02:44 (one year ago)

I note that my two local GOP officials who constantly retweet Trump stuff have been relatively quiet post-debate. One quoted one of JD Vance's tweets, but other than that an unusual silence. One of them had been live-tweeting the debate until right before the dog-eating, and then just totally stopped and I don't think has mentioned Trump since.

Blitz Primary (tipsy mothra), Monday, 16 September 2024 02:44 (one year ago)

There was an article about Routh in Taiwanese media in 2022 ("American posts Taiwan flag in Kyiv to honor Taiwanese soldiers in Ukraine"): https://taiwannews.com.tw/news/4563588

obnoxious thing about this shooting is that it overshadows two pretty big events, first JD Vance admitting he made up the dogs and cats story which Trump repeated to a large national audience, resulting in bomb threats, and Trump tweeting out that he hates the biggest pop star in the world

frogbs, Monday, 16 September 2024 02:50 (one year ago)

When you’re “hot” the lowlifes really shoot at you... and they try hitting from every angle! Never let the bastards get you down.

TBF Trump's campaign slogan is "LOL nothing matters" so we probably should have seen this coming.

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Monday, 16 September 2024 03:17 (one year ago)

both of these things seem like they actually could matter. the Taylor thing because she has an extremely devoted army of young fans which is typically not a reliable voting bloc and he just went after them for no reason; the Springfield thing because they're using straight up Nazi tactics and it's inspiring bomb threats and putting the entire town on edge to the point where the schools had to shut down, and it's all because of some shit Vance admits is just made up, which to me seems like it very much ought to be a felony

frogbs, Monday, 16 September 2024 03:20 (one year ago)

yes what they both did with regard to Springfield was criminal

Dan S, Monday, 16 September 2024 03:22 (one year ago)

I mean Scott's right people were having a lot of fun with this which is kinda worrisome since "Trump says some dumb shit" isn't that much of a story but if they're straight up inciting violence and bomb threats at schools due to a story they are continuing to insist people spread despite admitting it's COMPLETELY MADE UP then that's genuinely evil. just unleashing the attack dogs on a random Ohio town because they want to be racist for political gain. it would be one thing if they issued a small mia culpa or even just let the story fade but no they are absolutely tripling down on this. I mean you truly have to be a sick motherfucker to vote for him despite that

frogbs, Monday, 16 September 2024 03:30 (one year ago)

Sundays are very exciting days in this campaign

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 16 September 2024 03:31 (one year ago)

i don't think the shooting is overshadowing either story, mostly because Trump and Vance seem unwilling to let either story go which maybe they think is politically savvy but it seems suicidal to me.

omar little, Monday, 16 September 2024 03:31 (one year ago)

i wonder if this will scare him off the road

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 16 September 2024 03:31 (one year ago)

it feels like complete desperation, i understand people are worried about the polls of course but this doesn't feel like an operation which is confident about winning.

omar little, Monday, 16 September 2024 03:31 (one year ago)

the fact that he's even golfing in the first place like what would the reaction be if Biden was caught doing that after his infamous debate

frogbs, Monday, 16 September 2024 03:42 (one year ago)

seems like it very much ought to be a felony

a cynical thought occurs: since we all know he's never going to actually be held accountable for anything, what if public entities just started suing him for this campaign if hate? the very conservative mayor of springfield oh has already made a statement clarifying that the immigrants are 1) there legally and 2) started to arrive in the middle of dj's administration.

idk how law actually works, but it seems like a good workaround to have it be wherever he goes in the country he has massive unpaid fines and lots of bench warrants.

idk how anyone can believe any of this is real tbh

I think it’s hilarious that everyone eventually ends up realizing Trump is a moron and hates him. It might take years but it will happen.

StanM, Monday, 16 September 2024 06:42 (one year ago)

I’d say 35%. Another 8-12% know he’s a moron and hate him but he signs the right bills, appoints the right judges and isn’t a commie like Kamala.

papal hotwife (milo z), Monday, 16 September 2024 09:12 (one year ago)

I wouldn't be surprised if the hardcore base is closer to 5-10% and the remaining 40 are freeloaders with varying degrees of exasperation. If his campaign continues to spiral down like that plane did in Brazil, we might begin to see people abandoning ship, accepting that Trump failed them, and starting to project themselves in 4 years. The only question is how fast Trump disintegrates, by now it's pretty clear that his campaign is a catastrophic failure, shallow and misguided in almost every way. The next two months could be a purgatory on his way to hell / oblivion.

Nabozo, Monday, 16 September 2024 09:40 (one year ago)

At least my hope is that once his chances erode below the error margin, support for him might vanish overnight emperor clothes style.

Nabozo, Monday, 16 September 2024 09:45 (one year ago)

I wonder if he'll be a phenom like Dubya - within years people will deny ever having supported him.

Judge Judy, executioner (stevie), Monday, 16 September 2024 09:51 (one year ago)

I’ve said it many times but Democrats need to make sure no one can ever disavow it - he must hang like an anvil from the Republican party for decades, like Republicans did with Carter

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Monday, 16 September 2024 09:57 (one year ago)

Given that Reagan was a huge piece of shit, I think Democrats should repeatedly say the party of Reagan is now the party of Trump. It reinforces how far away they have moved from Lincoln and paints them as wholly unserious buffoons.
