I think people are going to say how did he even get that close and all set up with his backpacks and his bulletproof vest, and a rifle, etc. he was very close to project dumbo. which is what i wish the secret service name for trump was.

kind of wild how much of an online presence this would-be assassin has compared to the first one.

I didn't listen closely but there was someone on npr talking about how the Secret Service detail for an ex president or a candidate is different/less-than the one for the sitting president. There are limits to what they can do.

I've been around these premises long enough that you hopefully won't mistake me for woke, but the Haitian immigrant stuff is profoundly racist and you should substantially lower your esteem for anybody engaging in it.

i couldn't tell what was going on in that excerpt. it was written really poorly. a black mental hole could have been lots of things.

and this just made it more confusing to me:

also this is totally vague.

Also I totally think Harris has been underestimated by just about everybody, for a lot of reasons but especially and overarchingly because of gender/race. I underestimated her for sure. There are times where you can use being underestimated to your advantage, and I think she's done that very well.

I underestimated her because she claimed to be for M4A etc. and was obviously lying about it. I mean, be cynical but do it with some style at least.

Another reason she might have been under-estimated is she improved exponentially since 2020, while relatively out of the spotlight. VP's tend to get frozen in time as far as visibility goes, at least in recent times

dan, if i had read the whole article i'm sure i would have understood it. when they mentioned the black mental hole i honestly thought they were talking about mental illness or depression. which i know about! it made sense to me that way. but they weren't talking about that. it was just unclear to me. the whole excerpt could have been written clearer.

i do have a recent example of people not seeing the obvious though. all the cat & dog stuff. it started to make me angry how people right and left seemed to be having such a good time with it. so many memes. so much laughter on television. i couldn't understand how people didn't get that it wasn't just Haitian refugees - people who had left often horrifying situations - who were at risk and in danger because of Trump and his people. that ANY person of color was at risk and in danger because of the memes and Trump's lies about Springfield. i kept waiting for someone to mention this on the news. i watch the news every day. its a sickness. nobody brought this up. just that there were bomb threats and that - truthfully - the Haitians were in danger. finally, days later, one person mentioned this. and that person was...Al Sharpton! a voice from my 80s past. he was the one and only person on t.v. - that i heard - who mentioned that this was a danger for ALL black and brown people in the U.S.
the news sucks though. i don't know why i would expect more.

I note that my two local GOP officials who constantly retweet Trump stuff have been relatively quiet post-debate. One quoted one of JD Vance's tweets, but other than that an unusual silence. One of them had been live-tweeting the debate until right before the dog-eating, and then just totally stopped and I don't think has mentioned Trump since.

TBF Trump's campaign slogan is "LOL nothing matters" so we probably should have seen this coming.

both of these things seem like they actually could matter. the Taylor thing because she has an extremely devoted army of young fans which is typically not a reliable voting bloc and he just went after them for no reason; the Springfield thing because they're using straight up Nazi tactics and it's inspiring bomb threats and putting the entire town on edge to the point where the schools had to shut down, and it's all because of some shit Vance admits is just made up, which to me seems like it very much ought to be a felony
