i am not trying to claim that Ohio was a paradise

my impression is that this is the result of 'outside agitators' rather than Ohio residents? it seems the Haitian population has been fairly well accepted in Springfield, tempered by concerns about inadequate infrastructure, schools, etc.

JD Vance is a trad cath convert who probably goes to some off-brand Opus Dei Latin Mass place where they wear capes (that is a a thing, apparently) and jibber in Latin.

O 'Tis Redding (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 13 September 2024 17:13 (one year ago)

He probably is a sede vacantist, too

O 'Tis Redding (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 13 September 2024 17:14 (one year ago)

Someone should ask Vance whether or not his wife should have the right to vote.

This Haitians-eating -pets thing is TIP of the iceberg when it comes to the horribleness in OH that I’m referring to. I don’t have the time nor energy to list the ways.

Many xxxxposts but my girlfriend asked me to explain who Laura Loomer is, so I was revisiting old ILX posts, found this tweet and cracked up

police inform Laura Loomer that Twitter isn't pressing charges and she can stay chained to their door as long as she wants

Ok one more thing about Loomer, isn’t one of Trumps central traits that he’s perpetually horny? And isn’t it incredibly obvious that his own wife won’t give him the time of day?

“Not long ago, the current Heritage president, Kevin Roberts, was triumphantly promising a “second American revolution” and darkly declaring that it would be bloodless “if the left allows it to be.” Steve Bannon floated him as a possible White House chief of staff.

That was before Project 2025 was turned into a campaign issue by Harris — and disavowed by Trump. Last weekend, the 922-page playbook became quite possibly the first think tank paper in American history to appear in TV spots during NFL games, naturally via a scathing negative ad.

For the Heritage old guard, the bill of complaints against Project 2025 dovetails with broader gripes about Roberts, a culture-war intellectual who has dramatically reoriented the foundation in a populist, pro-Trump direction.”

just found out that the drummer in my first band was just arrested for Jan 6th! 3+ years after it happened.. his girlfriend as well (apparently she was the main inspiration behind his political, eh, 'transformation'). A pre-dawn raid no less

I'd heard that he'd gone Trumpy but I had no idea about this... a mutual friend told me that rumors had been floating for awhile, but he swore up & down that they didn't enter the building... the photos clearly show that they did

fucking crazy

From the Guardian - this is the DeSantis 'let's pay a little visit to their homes' fascist thing... SO fucked up

Isaac Menasche, a Fort Myers voter, said he signed a petition months ago when he was approached at a local farmer’s market. He wrote down his name, birthday, address, and scribbled a quick version of his signature. He didn’t think much of it until last week when a law enforcement officer showed up at his door and pulled out a copy of his signature on the petition, asking him to confirm that it was his – which it was.

“The experience left me shaken. What troubled me was he had a folder on me containing my personal information – about 10 pages. I saw a copy of my driver’s license and copy of the petition I signed,” Menasche wrote in a Facebook post last week. “It was obvious to me that a significant effort was exerted to determine if indeed I had signed the petition. Troubling that so much resources were devoted to this. I wonder if the same could be said if the petition were for some innocuous issue.”
