i understand the eras tour was quite successful even though she endorsed biden?

Frankly I think it's a dereliction of duty for Vance to be running around the country while the state he represents is under attack by Haitian Alfs

Line from Annie Hall I just remembered this morning: "Right now it's only a notion, but I think I can get money to make it into a concept, and later turn it into an idea."

cnn anchor just now: "donald trump had everything to do with 1/6 and now he's just lying about his lying."

they smell blood...

Whether it's Taylor Swift endorsing Kamala Harris or the lead singer of Three Doors Down endorsing Donald Trump, both candidates have secured the backing of music megastars.

checks headline* “Inflation Slows to 2.5%” Think I have an answer!

― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, September 11, 2024 8:19 AM (one hour ago) bookmarkflaglink

No one but economists and policy wonks thinks about inflation this way. They just know that groceries are a lot more expensive than they used to be. That doesn’t stop being true when the rate of inflation slows down.

Plus it’s not exactly a great argument anyway because it kind of sounds like “we somewhat mitigated the problem we created.”

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 15:20 (one year ago)

better argument is that inflation in the u.s. never got as bad as it did in the rest of the world, but then again, nobody in the u.s. cares about the rest of the world

hott ogo (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 15:26 (one year ago)

and grocery prices have been dropping for a few months now, and are projected to continue doing so, so it's not just slowing inflation. not nearly enough to get us back to where things were pre-pandemic though...

bulb after bulb, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 15:29 (one year ago)

nobody in the u.s. cares about the rest of the world

The US is full of immigrants sending money home who care very much about the rest of the world. If you mean "the old white people in my head that I'm mad at," say that instead.

Now that prices of ordinary commodities have inflated they will not be coming down in any broad sense, only some price fluctuations in specific items. That's because monetary policy is 100% committed to killing any broad deflationary moves in the economy.

The way out of inflation for working people is to increase wages. Salaried workers will get their share of the bigger money supply that was injected into the economy during the pandemic much sooner than wage workers, unless the minimum wage is adjusted upward to $15/hr or more.

Congress could also sop up some of that extra money by raising taxes on corporations and the super rich, and the Trump Tax Cuts are due to expire very soon, so there's an opportunity to do so while retaining the more popular parts of that package. But will they?

gas prices have nothing to do with inflation but it's one of the ways voters perceive it because they post them to the penny on big signs at major intersections.

Last night’s debate earned an overnight rating of 32.8 and a 70 share across eight networks. That’s +28% higher than the Trump-Biden debate earlier this year.

Yea but most people haven’t really seen that, most sane people don’t follow politics like we do, that’s why the “they’re eating the cats and dogs” line is so wild, that’s something you can maybe say during the 9 AM block of Fox & Friends but normal folks are actually watching this

to be clear i do think it went about as bad as it couldve for trump, just making the point that thats just how he is these days, and yeah tbf he did say like five of the most insane things ever said in a presidential debate so maybe im not giving him enough credit for fucking up last night

It is 1:18 PM Eastern Time.

I have not yet seen anyone film themselves shooting an AR-15 at a Taylor Swift album.

Come on maganuts, don't disappoint me. I need some totally unhinged behavior to point and giggle at.

They’re still confused that a white woman would vote for a POC

Its big ball chunky time (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 17:22 (one year ago)

i was watching part of the CNN town hall with their "undecided voter" panel and there were moments where you realize these people just want everything spoonfed to them like a baby and they have absolutely no interest in doing the research themselves. there was a pastor that said neither of them gave anything of detailed substance so he was just going to ask for god's guidance and i wanted to slam my head into the wall.

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 17:33 (one year ago)

I think people take the job of undecided voter very seriously. It's like serving on a jury. You can't let information affect your decision.

There’s a Monster in my Vance (President Keyes), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 17:34 (one year ago)

You have to expect that anyone who is a genuinely undecided voter at this stage has the political awareness of a squirrel and to the extent they have political opinions at all they are bound to be a compound of shallow, confused, and half-formed nonsense.

Some interesting developments where I live. None of these new districts apply to me; they're slightly to my north and east. (Whitefish is about an hour's drive from me, but so is everything.)

It's so funny how the news channels elevate panels of undecided voters to this "holy fool" status. These know-nothing morons are stood up on a pedestal for their almost entirely arbitrary decisions to be observed by an anxious nation. They're like the octopus that predicts world cup winners by randomly touching flags with his tentacles.

OneSecondBefore, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 17:47 (one year ago)

cnn anchor john king always talking about how the election is going to be decided "around the margins." motherfucker, none of this would be even close to around the margins if we just went by the popular vote and not let 7-8 states decide our country's future!

John may be a King but I doubt he has the power to single-handedly change the constitution

To be fair, the same can be said of a lot of decided voters.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 18:08 (one year ago)

If you are an experienced canvasser, you've frustratingly found that Undecided voters have an incomprehensibly-contradictory series of issue priorities, it's like they are the human embodiment of a box of split 7-inch singles ("safer streets for my kids to cross" b/w "wider roads with higher speed limits"; "We can't even tell jokes anymore!" b/w "how DARE you blasphemously mock religion!"; "lower my property taxes" b/w "no new construction anywhere near me"; "free healthcare" b/w "cut medicaid spending for unwed mothers"; "get government out of my bedroom" b/w "feminism ruined everything"; "cheap gas" b/w "I want a massive truck"; "no more wars" b/w "never forget 9/11 and bomb the bastards", you get the idea).

I eventually made peace with the fact that things completely unrelated to policy, like vibes, or which side looks like they are having - and will allow you to have - the most fun, determines their vote as much as whatever side of the issue they decide to support that day.
