idk 19th century politics was pretty wild xp

ive wondered if The jason and steven Millers were feeding him all this bullshit Wormtongue style or if he just latches onto whatever Hannity or Tucker sez

llurk, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 03:54 (one year ago)

the latter, he's like every old person slamming Fox News and right-wing social media into his veins 18 hours a day

papal hotwife (milo z), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 03:55 (one year ago)

Yeah he's always been a sponge for crazy right-wing media. To whatever degree his faculties have diminished I think it just makes it more transparent. He was almost plaintive about the dog-eating, "I saw it on TV!"

Blitz Primary (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 03:58 (one year ago)

Trump got an extra five minutes. He spoke 39 times vs her 23 times. Wow.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 03:59 (one year ago)

What was the deal with that Taliban answer? Was any element of it taken from reality?

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 03:59 (one year ago)

not a bad thing when your opponent is constantly punching himself in the balls

Apparently Laura loomer was on the plane up with him.

Yeah--a friend was complaining that they were letting him go on, and I suggested that was a gift.

"Look, I went to the Wharton School of Finance"--they're playing back highlights.

It is kind of funny tbh that we’re now all “debates are very important” after watching Harris put her entire foot in Trump’s ass sideways

laughter is the best weapon (DJP), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:06 (one year ago)

well I do believe in the idea that you can't really win on a strong debate but you can lose on a bad one, obviously you don't have to go back very far to see that, but I cannot imagine a single person deciding to vote for Trump based on that, while Kamala I think did everything she needed to do to win over anyone on the fence

frogbs, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:13 (one year ago)

The trans illegal aliens getting gender reassignment surgery in jail is so next level it may never be matched and i mean in fiction, comic books, or pro wrestling.

kind of funny tbh that we’re now all “debates are very important”

Seems likely that the 'instant' national polls won't budge very much and the swing states will remain close, even with Harris's vanquishing him with style and panache. But the importance is that last election Biden barely squeaked out the five most important swing states in spite of beating Trump by 8,000,000 votes. Anything that's bad for Trump and good for Harris with the handful of uncommitted voters in those states is of lopsided importance.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:18 (one year ago)

“And the stature gap in terms of physical size was also notable, especially with Harris having a shorter podium. Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you should watch the debate with the sound off, and by that measure it was much closer than with the sound on.”

— Nate silver

If she wants to win, Harris needs to train her face not to respond.

It feeds into a female stereotype and, more importantly, risks offending undecided voters. #Debate2024

Hmm wonder what’s going on here

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:19 (one year ago)

idk i really "enjoyed" how foreign countries are sending all their criminals here and giving them to Kamala

omar little, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:19 (one year ago)

btw, I'm disappointed that Harris didn't manage to use the word "unhinged" at some point in the last half hour.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:20 (one year ago)

The trans illegal aliens getting gender reassignment surgery in jail is so next level it may never be matched and i mean in fiction, comic books, or pro wrestling.

so, that actually has some basis in truth lol:
https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/09/politics/kfile-harris-pledged-support-in-2019-to-cut-ice-funding-and-provide-transgender-surgery-to-detained-migrants/index.html

but this is yet another case of trump referencing some news item he saw without actually explaining it, so it sounds to most people like he's just making shit up.

jaymc, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:20 (one year ago)

Nate Silver flopsweating, trying to figure out a way to make it seem close

omar little, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:20 (one year ago)

right I was gonna say it turns out he *was* talking about something specific but it's not really a news story anyone who isn't plugged into FOX 16 hours a day would know about, and he's talking about it in the craziest possible way, in the midst of his side trying to defend themselves against the allegation that they're a bunch of weirdos

frogbs, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:24 (one year ago)

are all republicans pro-russia when it comes to ukraine? trump wouldn't say that he wanted ukraine to win and he lamented the deaths of russian soldiers.

scott seward, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:24 (one year ago)

"It is kind of funny tbh that we’re now all “debates are very important” after watching Harris put her entire foot in Trump’s ass sideways"

i couldn't believe so many people on here weren't going to watch it! i knew it was going to be special.

scott seward, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:27 (one year ago)

can't see how that debate performance could help Trump or not help Harris... dunno how much, but we're two months out now and nobody can afford to lose an inch of ground. with Biden, Trump's campaign team were coasting and could proceed slowly and carefully. now they are scrambling and Harris winning this debate will likely keep them wrong-footed

the absence of bikes (f. hazel), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:28 (one year ago)

love to see good ol' Nate chinwagging about the "stature gap" and its deep relevance to voters.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:32 (one year ago)

xp jaymc ty, i def needed that

well below the otm mendoza line (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:32 (one year ago)

the most lmao thing is that the vast majority of people who watched the debate aren't really plugged into this like we are, Trump saying "they're coming to eat your dogs and cats" must sound totally insane to people who didn't know that was a story

frogbs, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:32 (one year ago)

like, Trump was clearly shook in the "spin room" and Harris is already saying bring on the next debate... no way Trump isn't scared of that, and no way could he possibly change his performance in another debate in any way. she'll bait him again, he'll fall for it again, and she'll be even less nervous this time.

the absence of bikes (f. hazel), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:32 (one year ago)

i thought she did as good as you possibly could against someone so obviously fucking demented. she kept her cool. she gave him a ton of shots. putin is going to eat his lunch? that was amazing. he landed nothing. it was all old man anger. flailing. it was beautiful to see. he was sweating. his nose was running.

scott seward, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:36 (one year ago)

just that beginning alone. coming over into his space and demanding a handshake? that is some dominant behavior. so cool. he was totally flustered by that.

scott seward, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:38 (one year ago)

the part where she was like "this...." clearly wanting to say "motherfucker" but instead saying "former president" was so goddamn good

frogbs, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:42 (one year ago)

that was awesome. we laughed loudly at that.

scott seward, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:43 (one year ago)

I liked how much juice she put into "former president" over and over. Her most consistent message with that and "turn the page" was just, this guy is over. I thought the most cogent summary of her appeal was when she said, "I'm not Joe Biden. And I'm obviously not Donald Trump." That's pretty much what she was selling.

frogbs, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:46 (one year ago)

I can easily imagine voters under 40 watching Trump fulminating, bloviating, indulging in the most ott doomsaying, complaining, whining, namecalling and just blathering nonsense - and thinking...

I swear she was about to say “fucking idiot” mostly because that’s what my mind put into that space

laughter is the best weapon (DJP), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 05:03 (one year ago)

Silver’s stature thing doesn’t even make sense. She’s shorter, is this the one scenario where he’ll argue that being less physically imposing is beneficial?

If he went with “she doesn’t look like a dead person with 40 pounds of makeup on” okay maybe.

papal hotwife (milo z), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 05:06 (one year ago)

tomorrow we can do an extensive analysis of the relative value of Taylor Swift's endorsement vs Charli XCX calling Harris "BRAT"

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 05:11 (one year ago)

Charli made her cool, Taylor makes her popular.

Blitz Primary (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 05:17 (one year ago)

Something I keep coming back to is that when Trump was asked repeatedly if he'd veto a national abortion ban, his response is that Kamala Harris would never be able to pass it (?????). No, in this thought experiment YOU are the President. What about this isn't clear?

— Chris Hayes (@chrislhayes) September 11, 2024

I noticed this too, very strange

frogbs, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 05:23 (one year ago)

I don't think that was quite what he was saying, but of course everything he says is garbled.

If she wants to win, Harris needs to train her face not to respond. It feeds into a female stereotype and, more importantly, risks offending undecided voters.

I disagree with this. For every undecided voter offended by Harris’ expressions I’m guessing you could find two saying “Yes! I make that face when Trump speaks too!”

Front-loaded albums are musical gerrymandering (Prefecture), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 05:32 (one year ago)

just to be clear, i think harris enduring with actual emotion through the maniacally hilarious onslaught of bullshit in the ways that she did was totally boss and how he should have been handled all along. her facial responses seemed natural and appropriate throughout.

she had her talking points and hammered on them. the moderation was handled the way a heated political debate should be, but only in this convoluted scenario can i simultaneously say that they were definitely giving harris more leniency on fact-checking her claims (but then again, her claims were... uhh, normal things that happened or are going to happen because trimp is shitheap).

i did like that she ended by saying how all these jokers do is scream and complain and accuse and then... over to you former president and he uses his last chance to talk to do exactly that! i'm voting for harris because she can see the future! or read minds! whatever.

final thought: all debates are good debates because either the guy you like will do or say something you like and/or the guy you don't like will do or say something really foolish and possibly get given the what-for in real time by the guy you do like (that's like the political debate alley oop when that happens, definitely the most fun play for spectators!).

Marco Rubio figured out how to bait Trump in 2016. It's shocking that Hillary Clinton and Biden never baited him.
