John Gummer was saying it was a disgrace that the UK govt allowed them to be extradited to the US. I don't know much about the case other than it was probably serious shit in terms of them risking jail time and he didn't plea bargain and somehow they won it. But then came... The Forces

the worst kind of fan-service callback tbh

mark s, Friday, 23 August 2024 17:59 (one year ago)

as there are still nutty sleuthers out there who believe Jay Slater was murdered then this one will have legs as well. That the crew got off the boat so fast will be a conspiracy part. I genuinely feel sorry for the crew who survived, because when a billionaire or two dies on your watch you've got hell on.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Friday, 23 August 2024 18:08 (one year ago)

I did not follow that story closely, but can't quite countenance "lol rich people in peril" glee, as there was, like, a baby involved

The baby survived so hurrah!

Defund Phil Collins (Tom D.), Friday, 23 August 2024 18:39 (one year ago)

well, fuck me. What a pointless and totally supercilious post to make when the bairn just got a wet head!

I read something about a heavy, retractable keel, and if that keel hadn't been retracted there's no way the boat wouldn't have fallen over

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 23 August 2024 20:01 (one year ago)

but yeah, considering how many boats sinks and lives are lost in the Mediterranean each year, the hyper-focus on this vessel seems a little overblown

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 23 August 2024 20:02 (one year ago)

yeah but

yeah it only needs to be raised in shallow waters and this was in 150 meters of water, so the captain is probably in deep shit here.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Friday, 23 August 2024 21:44 (one year ago)

should have said 'would've fallen over'

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 23 August 2024 21:52 (one year ago)

it's not like all that money just goes back into the economy, though

from the distant cctv footage the lights go out before it sinks, even if the engine room's water tight door was open, there should have been a few doors before this that would have prevented it flooding so quickly and taking out the generator. Was listening to a yacht crew guy saying there is never enough crew and the trend in superyacht design is towards less crew and more billionaire leisure space. lol, billionaires finally becoming victims of the austerity agenda that is their religion.

All I can say is I'm lost for words, not just at this gorgeous megayacht but how EVER SINGLE VIDEO is ever increasing in production quality and carefully crafted to be the best it can possibly be .
-To quote Enes on the Iced Coffee Hour podcast " I am addicted to progress" and that is very apparent in your content. Much love!

Victims of Bayesian superyacht sinking ‘suffocated in cabin air pocket’

Autopsies on four people found no water in their lungs, it was reported, suggesting they died from asphyxiation as the air in cabins filled with carbon dioxide

wowsers, that was a grim ending

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Thursday, 5 September 2024 18:28 (one year ago)

I don't care about the megayacht sinking even more than I didn't care about the Titanic submarine implosion - which is to say that I'm totally following this. OceanGate has far more delusional personalities, but this is straight-up the Randomness Of The Univese waking up and saying "fuck these people"

Rich People Dying would make a good t.v. show.

Actually I think the Island of Dr Moreau would be a great place for Trump to spend the rest of his life.

hate to say it but I think I gotta add Big Ears to my list

go polish your nose ring (sleeve), Tuesday, 10 September 2024 22:46 (one year ago)

you confused me there for a second. i thought, but what about obama! his ears are cute!

but you mean the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink music fest.

i feel sad sometimes that there isn't anyone i would be excited to see live. :(

my live days are done. :(

scott seward, Tuesday, 10 September 2024 22:53 (one year ago)

i looked at that long big ears list and the one thing that popped out at me was michael rother doing neu! songs. that would be cool to hear.

scott seward, Tuesday, 10 September 2024 22:55 (one year ago)

meh

go polish your nose ring (sleeve), Tuesday, 10 September 2024 22:56 (one year ago)

yeah the headliners are pretty mainstream but I might go to see Wadada Leo Smith in multiple settings, Anti Pop Consortium, and Vijay Iyer. The last two years I've gne to the Long Play festival in Brooklyn in May, it has scratched the avant-jazz and contemporary classical itch of mine.

i'm guessing that sun ra and yo la tengo together is some sort of wet dream for some indie nerds? or maybe they play together all the time what do i know?

i'm gonna try and care about stuff for 2025. that will be my goal. i am on new medicine! it could happen.

scott seward, Tuesday, 10 September 2024 23:22 (one year ago)

They did this at Maxwell's in Hoboken back in the 90s, I believe.

We could both try to do this and have some ilx competition like the beatles omnipresence thread … or not. I saw arkestra 11 yrs ago … I was the backstage manager… so I only kinda saw them? I saw them buy weed … weed bro was chill.
