Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 23:32 (one year ago)

He's back

In his first TV interview since exiting the 2024 race, President Biden tells CBS News' @costareports he's "not confident at all" that a peaceful transfer of power will happen in January 2025 if former President Donald Trump loses.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 23:43 (one year ago)

How can it be anything but peaceful, the people in charge of the transition are his own people. The only reason people freaked out about that in 2020 is because Trump had direct influence over all of the parties involved in the transition and was actively attempting to block it

Kamala herself will be presiding over the electoral vote count.

The main challenge are states with 2020 deniers in key positions who might obstruct state certification. That's worth worrying about, but Trump's just gonna file dumb lawsuits

If the EC count is close and the GOP manages to foul up one or two swing states and keep them from certifying their results, they can knock Harris' EC vote count under 270 which throws the election to the House, where it's a vote of state delegations, so Trump wins 26-24. Any attempt to do that will result in tons of lawsuits which will get appealed up to... the Supreme Court.

stop the steal loser

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 23:53 (one year ago)

Yeah but again that was much easier when he was already in office. Nobody was going to dissipate his assembly, he asked them not to wand his supporters for weapons, and he saw to it that no law enforcement or National Guard reinforcements could be deployed to the scene until it was too late

fake news! this was always on Jive, and Top Dog didn’t put out a commercial release solo until ‘96.

bae (sic), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 23:54 (one year ago)

Not saying nothing can/will happen, just saying Trump had a much easier time doing it last time as he was the incumbent and so he was using White House resources to do what he did.

I doubt there will another coup attempt in DC, but are there going to be death threats against election officials in swing states? Almost certainly.

There’s a Monster in my Vance (President Keyes), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 23:54 (one year ago)

There already are.

the thing is - if there's somebody handing out water bottles, or some precinct boss accidentally moves the wrong box of votes - they're gonna be on it like flies on shit

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 23:55 (one year ago)

Harris/Democratic Party and their lawyers just need to anticipate every bit of tomfoolery in advance and strategies the best they can because there will be attempts on at state level, sure.

Best thing to do is win where it's not particularly close, but in this climate that's not easy. But I think Harris could create comfier margins in some swing states

I'm a bit paranoid about MAGA people being voted into election offices and interfering with the counts. Malevolent actors could cause chaos.

symsymsym, Thursday, 8 August 2024 00:00 (one year ago)

I don't think GOP state legislatures in swing states could successfully block certification. The only swing state where the GOP controls the trifecta is Georgia, where the Governor and Sec of State didn't go along with Trump in 2020.

symsymsym, Thursday, 8 August 2024 00:02 (one year ago)

the fact that Trump was riding so high three weeks ago and now is in a lonely gully must be absolutely infuriating to some of these crazies, I don't know what's gonna happen

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 8 August 2024 00:09 (one year ago)

xp otoh the Georgia election board just today approved a new "reasonble inquiry" for certifying election results which gives county election boards more leeway to reject the outcome

I feel like Charlie Brown clutching onto my sickly little Christmas tree, but: even though I don't like the Beyonce song anymore than I did five days ago (or that I will five years from now), if it's working for her/them, I'm 100% for it.

I was hoping I could live out my life without ever revisiting the subject (here, anyway), but since you've reopened the matter, I'll use that as an excuse to post this, one my friend and I put together soon after the Walz announcement (the friend again looking after all technical matters).

This is a deftly detailed, fair-sounding leftie consideration of Walz's transitional saga x mixed record, both pretty distinctive---and with some amazing testimonal ads he's recorded---can stream or read---here's the gist:

I think there has been a sea change in the American political landscape. Walz’s record, for all the flaws that there are to his record — and, believe me, there are definitely many flaws — it’s still a very robust progressive record. And in the past, that would have been considered a liability. But I think, according to reports at least, you know, one of the big reasons that Harris chose Walz, one of the things that she saw in him as a viable governing partner, was the fact that he was someone who had done a lot of the things that she wants to do on a national level, and she thought that he could help her do that. And by the way, the things that she wants to do, the things that she’s talking about, the things that Walz has already done in Minnesota, if you look at surveys, they’re overwhelmingly popular among the American public, across partisan lines. So, I think, you know, that has been true for a long time, but it’s taken a long time for the Democratic Party, for the kind of establishment in Washington, to realize it. And so, we’re seeing these things start to really change before our eyes now.

dow, Thursday, 8 August 2024 02:23 (one year ago)

so, what i guess i'm wondering about that MSNBC clip above is...is it worth it to sue stephen miller for saying that "joe biden and kamala harris are the number one traffickers of children and girls into sex slavery on planet earth" on national television? or do you just let it slide?
