i wouldn't be surprised that trump lost the drive partially because biden was an opponent he wanted to fight, and the fact that now it's somebody he considers to be beneath him (a woman, non white) infuriates him.

A nonwhite woman who might actually beat him. Bullies don't like fair fights, and in Biden he correctly assessed that that wasn't what he was facing.

Also it's true it took away his redemption narrative, he was going to come back and beat the guy who beat him last time. (By cheating!) It's like if Apollo Creed retired in the middle of Rocky II.

I think Trump being scared of appearing outside in public after someone took a shot that was a few inches away from killing him is pretty plausible explanation, above everything else going against him. He's a monster so fuck him, but I can relate.

Trump suffering PTSD seems pretty plausible, actually. Brain full of snakes and a complete absence of self-reflection for seven decades, the world permitting him to glide gracefully over any obstacle like a true Teflon Don, and then a brush with mortality that would probably leave any of us shook. That's a pretty reliable cocktail there.
