One of the Trumpy lines of attack is "Dem rally attendance is artificially inflated because they have entertainers; we don't need that." Frequently with the added barb that the entertainers in question are twerking degenerates and/or rappers with their filth flarn filth.

I remember the GOP dismissing an early 2008 Obama rally because they said most people had come to see the Decemberists. The Decemberists! Ah yes, so massively popular. There was no enthusiasm for Obama. It was just that people love sea shanties.

There was one kind of diversity in this small but weirdly intense crowd. Every type of white man that gets a hasty "swipe left" on his dating profile was in attendance: 'Roided out dudes with bad tribal tattoos. Older men radiating "bitter divorce" energy. it's tempting to think so, but normal doesn't mean good or sane, only what you are most likely to see and hear from the people around you. ask z_tbd about what's accepted as normal among the people he grew up with and he may tell you that christian-nationalism weirdness is accepted as normal, because God is never wrong, even when he makes demands that seem to cause suffering among His believers, while socialism is just godless humanism. normal is bigger than reality because we cut and shape reality to fit inside the frame.
