eventually it will become a story that trump is just not really doing rallies any more. he has one this week (in Montana, not a swing state). Harris/walz have like 8.

living in the U.S.A

Books by Margaret Atwood, Judy Blume, Rupi Kaur and Sarah J Maas are among 13 titles that the state of Utah has ordered to be removed from all public school classrooms and libraries.

Implementation guidelines say that banned materials must be “legally disposed of” and “may not be sold or distributed”.

So straight-up book burning, that's where we're at now

Which tractor pull is he doing tonight

if this site were a food it would have NO nutritional value!!!!!!! (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:07 (one year ago)

xp caek I read somewhere that part of the reason for that is that he has stiffed so many venues? also the reason why lots are outdoors.

I'm guessing it's some combination of

he's very tired which makes sense because he's old and sick
he's worried about the crowd size contrast
his people are worried that he makes less sense than he used to

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:09 (one year ago)

he also got shot at one of those

Where are the assassination attempt NFTs?

Charlie Hair (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:13 (one year ago)

maybe tim walz can be the one democrat not afraid to take back the word "progressive". "hell, yeah, i'm progressive, i'm not going back to a time without unions with donald trump."

you know what i mean? its such a dirty word thanks to the GOP. which, if you ask me, is WEIRD. its a perfectly good word.

Is it a dirty word? I thought that the main reason Democrats had started to embrace "progressive" was because Republicans had turned *liberal* into a dirty word.

jaymc, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:13 (one year ago)

Vance in the meantime is doing the equivalent of Alan Partridge doing a live version of his show in the travel tavern conference room.

Bad Bairns (Boring, Maryland), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:13 (one year ago)

he's worried about the crowd size contrast

Heard someone on TV last night say that that is the real issue right now for him: that it's just driving him crazy right now that the excitement/fun/attention is elsewhere, and that's crowding out any other attempt to come up with some sort of strategy that might slow things down a bit.

clemenza, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:14 (one year ago)

right. the excitement is elsewhere and to the extent there is attention on his campaign it's on his running mate for fucking couches etc. must be eating him up.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:16 (one year ago)

ut he's not like Bernie Sanders or Kamala Harris rich (let alone Trump rich or Bloomberg rich.)

TBF tho not even Trump is Trump rich

Great-Tasting Burger Perceptions (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:17 (one year ago)

So Harris/Walz and Vance are holding simultaneous rallies in Eau Claire WI today? lol. I have one friend who's going to soak in the vibes (and to see Bon Iver I guess).

Jordan s/t (Jordan), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:17 (one year ago)

if nothing else trump really understands how important enthusiasm is to politics, he said about aoc the other day "shes got a spark thats pretty amazing" and hes right about that

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:17 (one year ago)

there IS a huge problem with foreign entities owning massive amounts of real estate, and it’s not just a problem because so much of it is tied up in luxury condos.

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:18 (one year ago)

Absolutely. There's a huge problem with big corporations owning massive amounts of real estate, period, and there are additional concerns when those are foreign/multinationals. Essentially a version of corporate feudalism going on, where more and more property is owned by fewer and fewer owners.

Blitz Primary (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:20 (one year ago)

So Harris/Walz and Vance are holding simultaneous rallies in Eau Claire WI today? lol.

Vance is literally doing the whole framework from Hedwig and the Angry Inch but in the stupidest way.

If the graphics are hard to read, they're charts for online ad spend, first Google/YouTube and then Facebook/Instagram, for the end of July. The Harris campaign and the DNC are outspending the Trump campaign by something like 12 to 20 to 1. And the RNC isn't even on the chart. All their money is going right in Trump's pocket (or his lawyers' pockets). Republican House and Senate candidates are gonna be fucked with a capital F this year; there's no support coming for them at all, at least not from the party.

hard not to point out that this is just another story of her behind the scenes dealings, everyone wanted to quit but nancy said hey no guys we should do this, tho tbf in this case it is about actual legislation being passed so im willing to give partial credit

I agree the "Reverend Mother Pelosi" stuff is over the top, but what do you want from a legislator? like what would qualify her for full credit, body-checking Republicans on the House floor?

default damager (lukas), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:26 (one year ago)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:28 (one year ago)

is that GOP tweet supposed to be some kind of 'gotcha'?

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:28 (one year ago)

On Pelosi I think it's mostly about her instincts of what can be done under particular circumstances, andhow it can be done. Which of course could frustrate people who wanted to do things that she thought couldn't be done (see Green New Deal), but her win column looks pretty good. If Harris wins, that'll be quite the career capper.

Blitz Primary (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:29 (one year ago)

show me the win column

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:30 (one year ago)

multi-xps - trump is like the rest of us in that he's only seen AOC via video. the spark he's speaking about is the ability to abolish the flattening effect of video/microphone and come to life across that medium. he's got a great feel for that kind of charisma because he carefully studied how to simulate it.

"Is it a dirty word? I thought that the main reason Democrats had started to embrace "progressive" was because Republicans had turned *liberal* into a dirty word."

It totally is for Repubs. For them it is code for ultra-left wing people who want to give illegal rapists and murderers drivers licenses and voting rights so that they can drive to your house and kill you and then vote for Hannibal Lecter.

scott seward, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:45 (one year ago)

lol @ that GOP tweet literally just throwing out a good-ass Walz quote and thinking it's a slam dunk, these mutants are so far removed from normal human life it's insane

Great-Tasting Burger Perceptions (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:47 (one year ago)

show me the win column

for starters, ACA, Dodd-Frank, American Recovery & Reinvestment Act, COVID stimulus, IRA. all with the least cooperative Republicans in Congress any of us have ever seen. I know nobody wants to hear that - like maybe if we'd been more bold, we could have accomplished more! I mean, that could even be true, it would still be true that passing those bills was hard and she did it.

default damager (lukas), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:48 (one year ago)

One of the Trumpy lines of attack is "Dem rally attendance is artificially inflated because they have entertainers; we don't need that." Frequently with the added barb that the entertainers in question are twerking degenerates and/or rappers with their filth flarn filth.

I remember the GOP dismissing an early 2008 Obama rally because they said most people had come to see the Decemberists. The Decemberists! Ah yes, so massively popular. There was no enthusiasm for Obama. It was just that people love sea shanties.

cubing the gleam (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:48 (one year ago)

yeah, they have to trick people into showing up at their rallies

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:51 (one year ago)

ha ha they weren't even billed as the Decembrists, just the names of the band members
