or as donald trump would call him "a sucker and a loser".

scott seward, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 15:33 (one year ago)

National media: I am the only reporter in MN who has interviewed Walz about his putting chili on cinnamon rolls. I'm available for network and cable news appearances to discuss. This plays into "folksy" narratives as well as "who's the real weirdo?" ones. https://t.co/zKckAtJWcu

Hold up, Kamala, you might want to reconsider.

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 16:29 (one year ago)

i could support cinnamon-flavored corn bread but that's as far as i would be willing to go.

scott seward, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 16:38 (one year ago)

that must be a west of the Mississippi River thing because i spent so many of my childhood years in Wisconsin and Michigan and i'd never heard of that until now!

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 16:40 (one year ago)

Walz is originally from Nebraska, some Nebraskans I know are all about high levels of cinnamon in their chili and it is quite gross imho

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 16:41 (one year ago)

Yeah, the article says it's more of a Great Plains thing or even specifically a northeast-Nebraska thing. We need a cinnamon roll chili map alongside the duck duck grey duck map.

bratwurst autumn (Eazy), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 16:42 (one year ago)

cinnamon in chili makes sense as far as the overall flavor profile goes idk about high levels, a cinnamon bun right in yr chili is pretty wild does it have frosting on it how crazy are we getting here im intrigued, corn bread is often quite sweet pretty close to cake so theres that, but still the cinnabun is avant garde in comparison

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 16:45 (one year ago)

i also took the initial article to mean he was putting chili flakes on a cinnamon roll and that doesn't sound all that bad tbh.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 16:46 (one year ago)

that would be a sort of mexican approach to cinnabun, not nearly depraved enough for the midwest

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 16:48 (one year ago)

i put a bit of cinnamon in my chili, it's fine

ciderpress, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:13 (one year ago)

For clarification, I'm not talking about a little bit of cinnamon, I mean you can taste cinnamon in this chili more than, like, chili peppers

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:19 (one year ago)

i would absolutely eat chili over a cinnamon roll. buy one from the grocery store bakery pour a can of stagg over it, nuevo cuisine brunch baby. sounds like a good way to celebrate harris/walz winning the morning after election day.

oh my god this progressive radical madness has gone too far, now you want to take my chili and change its gender or something

I am from Missouri and I make a chili that relies heavily on cinnamon and brown sugar.

scott seward, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:52 (one year ago)

never understood that one either

I am sure everyone wants my extremely rigid and purist takes on chili, right?

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:53 (one year ago)

yes

Beef Chuck Cubes
Homemade Chili Paste (from dried and reconstituted guajillo, ancho, etc.)
Homemade Beef Stock
~12 hours cooking time

There might be some garlic or onion in there, maybe cumin, I would have to check. No tomatoes, no beans.

The time is the most important part.

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 17:58 (one year ago)

I grew up in Detroit and my relatively apolitical Facebook feed has been bombarded by Bob Seger posts.

"No tomatoes, no beans."

#fakestews #sad

scott seward, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 18:19 (one year ago)

sorry, i just really like beans. and some chunky tomatoes. in chili. i like all kinds of chili though. i used to go a person's backyard weekend parties partly for their veggie chili! i'd never had a better one. so, i am pretty open-minded.

scott seward, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 18:21 (one year ago)

I can’t bear kidney beans and use haricots (white beans) instead.

guillotine vogue (suzy), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 18:33 (one year ago)

pinto/black mix for me

cubing the gleam (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 18:36 (one year ago)

I love beans! I make a pot of beans basically every week. I just don't put them in chili.

I am making a stew this week with yellow eye beans, sweetcorn, bacon and salmon.

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Wednesday, 7 August 2024 18:47 (one year ago)

We bought a copy of Judith Barrett's Fagioli: The Bean Cuisine of Italy a couple of months ago and are gonna dive into it when the weather gets a little colder.

i love making stew. its a comforting task.

scott seward, Wednesday, 7 August 2024 18:56 (one year ago)

xxp, sure thing, sleeve!

Bean salads, such as with corn and tomatoes, are perfect warm weather bean recipes.

Cincy chili comes from the Greeks that ran the local diners, it’s based on something else and probably the local Germans said “hey could you put ton of cheese or a hotdog” on that stuff.

I don't know, it seems like all the facts are out there and pretty straightforward. People who want to trash him will trash him, but he was in the National Guard for 24 years, they can't make that go away. (Also it's not like that is his big claim to anything, it's just part of his bio.)

Blitz Primary (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 8 August 2024 12:31 (one year ago)

Way different electorate and set of circumstances than when that sh1t was levied on Kerry in 2004. Don’t see how any of these will get that much traction considering Trump.

The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Thursday, 8 August 2024 13:09 (one year ago)

Yeah Kerry practically made "being in the military" his whole campaign. I remember cringing when, while watching him accept the nomination at the DNC the first thing he did was he saluted and said "Reporting for Duty!" or some such.
