Guys, guys, just five dollars can get us some Peeps and a bottle of Gatorade

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:08 (one year ago)

If the Dems weren't so inherently hapless most of the time, I would honestly be wondering if the last several weeks weren't part of an intricately-plotted long game. Like way too much has just slotted so neatly into place with such casual, effortless grace, it's hard to believe there isn't some grandmaster moving pieces around behind the curtain

it's wild + the Repubs are wayyyy off their game

a (waterface), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:08 (one year ago)

They are so STUCK with Trump. It's honestly hilarious.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:09 (one year ago)

vs. Trump with his cybertruck + Beach Boys hellscape video from yesterday

tbf Vance would have also said Shapiro was Hamas

Jersey Devil Vance (President Keyes), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:09 (one year ago)

bravo! Send it to her campaign

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:14 (one year ago)

One thing I learned reporting on Walz’s teaching years is that when he coached middle school basketball he secretly lowered a hoop and convinced his team that he could dunk

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:16 (one year ago)

If I heard correctly on TV, Amy Klobuchar just said her mother in law gave the Walz family a chicken parmesan bake when their son was born. absolutely violent levels of midwestern.

Nice, Skot!

Marten Broadcloak, mild-mannered GOP congressman (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:18 (one year ago)

Can just imagine Trump raging Bruno Ganz style to his aides, "Why couldn't you find me someone like that guy? Now I'm stuck with this weirdo Vance".

Defund Phil Collins (Tom D.), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:22 (one year ago)

Now we need Dark Walz memes

Jersey Devil Vance (President Keyes), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:23 (one year ago)

Tim Walz's first teaching job was on my tribe's reservation (Pine Ridge).

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:27 (one year ago)

has no one seen the 1994 Little Rascals? i always assumed Walz's reference had something to do with this:

HARRIS/WALZ: Runnin' Against the Wind 2024

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:31 (one year ago)

Minnesota may be blue, but the House district in which @tim_walz won 6 straight elections is rural and Republican. W Bush won by 4%, Obama by 4% & 2%, and Trump by 15% & 10%—but in 5 of his 6 House elections 2006-16 Walz’s winning margins ranged from 5% to 30%. cc: @SteveKornacki

Harris/Walz '24: Turn the Page

@andy

cubing the gleam (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:42 (one year ago)

It's kind of amazing to see the US Politics thread posters riding so hard for a Democratic presidential ticket. Not that it can last, but for now it's nice to shed our hard-earned cynicism just long enough to take a brief refreshing bath in optimism. We'll have to sober up eventually, but this feels free and loose, and I like it. The sullen fear of more Trump years has been incredibly depressing.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:46 (one year ago)

southern MN is as trumpy as anywhere, maybe a little less factoring in Rochester (decent sized city, Mayo Clinic company town) and Mankato (home of Minnesota State), but I believe my home county of Faribault was the largest Trump margin in the state.

but also my town is about 8 miles from Iowa so it's all just the classic flat cornfields etc

'rocks and cows' you mean

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 18:49 (one year ago)

Man, I had the best dish of ice cream I've ever had at a Bridgeman's in Faribault.

haha so here's the funny thing, for some reason Faribault is not in Faribault county, but a nice town, the Faribault Woolens factory outlet store there is worth a stop

oh snap!

Appointing Tim Walz, who praised Ilhan Omar, is like appointing the head of Sister Souljah's record label to run the Federal Communications Commission.

What's with MN having so many examples of this, like an entire state using the Led Zeppelin "Houses of the Holy" song/album naming convention?

Whoever was running Epic Records in 1992 is going to be very angry at that jibe

lol my town (Blue Earth) is not in Blue Earth County (which is the next county over), it's in Faribault County. Faribault is in Rice County.

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 19:11 (one year ago)

okay, i had to check:

Rice is a city in Benton County, Minnesota.

Buck Walzin'

Andy K, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 19:19 (one year ago)

Waltz does indeed seem like my dreem pick, but still wonder about this:

I think there was a legitimate electoral argument for Shapiro (murder coverup and other oppo notwithstanding) but the centrist pundit “policy” argument for him (like all their arguments) was completely vacuous and defined solely in opposition to a group of people who believe something and who they don’t like.

― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, August 6, 2024

If he really could deliver Pennsylvania, and shore up some other areas, with independent votes and non- and ex-Trump Repubs (he's said to be liked by some in PA), then---xxxpost showboating and other personality probs aside, I'm cynical enough to wonder if his comments on Israel etc. would be more repellent than what the current admin and its successors (Dem or Repub) are likely to actually do.

dow, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 19:19 (one year ago)

Someone pointed out that getting a point or two bump in PA is so important that Shapiro must have had a lot of liabilities in order to not get picked.

Jersey Devil Vance (President Keyes), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 19:26 (one year ago)

Well hopefully Shapiro will still campaign for the ticket, one would assume

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 19:28 (one year ago)

i think Shapiro will still ride hard for Harris and Walz, and PA seems to be a state that would react well to the Walz pick. I'm feeling more and more like Vance is an incredible liability on the Trump campaign, everything people thought Palin was in 2008 and then some.

omar little, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 19:31 (one year ago)

I went to college in Rice County (not the fancy mini-Harvard).

Not gonna go back to check, but I believe Jonathan Chait blew the dust off this classic today, too.

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 19:32 (one year ago)

little by little, but it's starting to happen

Among recent national head-to-head polls, SurveyUSA put Harris up three points ahead of Trump, 48%-45%; Morning Consult put her up four points, 48%-44%; YouGov and CBS News made it a one-point Harris lead, 50%-49%; and University of Massachusetts Amherst put Harris up three, 46%-43%.

Those results were mostly within the margin of error.

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 6 August 2024 19:33 (one year ago)

i think someone might have posted about this upthread but this is crazy
