I’ve seen the popular image of Tim Walz being hugged by the kids when signing the bill for free breakfast and lunch at schools, but this is my first time seeing the video and it’s very sweet.pic.twitter.com/PXEToDoG8v

I'm sure Vance, Elon and the tech bros are coming up with a theory about how Walz emasculated himself by agreeing to have a female boss.

Jersey Devil Vance (President Keyes), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 16:21 (one year ago)

lol at Walz being a “dangerous liberal extremist.” It’s always interesting to research who gets paid to write this stuff. She fits the young blonde Fox News type perfectly. Points docked for using “positionality” in her bio.

The thing about the argument that Shapiro would've been more reassuring to swing voters who are worried that the ticket is too far left is that it doesn't take vibes/affect into consideration at all. Regardless of their policy positions, Shapiro comes across as a slick big-city lawyer, while Walz is a folksy Midwestern dad. If voters are worried that Harris is a wacky San Francisco liberal, feel like Walz would be more reassuring than Shapiro.

― jaymc, Tuesday, August 6, 2024 12:16 PM (thirteen minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

agree with all this also the idea that the their politics are far left enough to cost them votes is ridiculous

I think there was a legitimate electoral argument for Shapiro (murder coverup and other oppo notwithstanding) but the centrist pundit “policy” argument for him (like all their arguments) was completely vacuous and defined solely in opposition to a group of people who believe something and who they don’t like.

They cannot comprehend why a party would place a Californian atop their ticket, let alone someone from such an exotic place as (chekcs notes) Minnesota.

Most of the pundits we see on major cable news shows haven't left the northeast corridor since Covid, to them Minnesota may as well be Mars

Harris was also taken with Walz’s biography — a former high school teacher, a football coach and a veteran who flipped a Republican-leaning district in 2006 — which she believes will play well in all three of the Blue Wall states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, including his win as a House member in a Republican district.

Walz is seen by Harris’ camp as a deft messenger, popularizing “weird” as a messaging framework to describe former President Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance — a cutting and clear tagline that went viral over the last two weeks.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, another finalist, avoided the green-room circuit and instead touted Harris and his own record at a series of events throughout the state. A pro-Harris event in Philadelphia turned into a Shapiro-for-VP party.

His style was seen by at least some in Harris’ world as showboating. One senior Democrat in touch with Harris’ team called it “counterproductive.”

And there was a sense within Shapiro’s team that, unlike Walz, his interview with Harris did not go as well as it could have. There was “not a great feeling” coming out of it, according to a person in touch with his advisers.

After their meeting on Sunday, Shapiro called Harris’ team and made clear that he was “struggling with the decision to leave his current job as governor of Pennsylvania, in order to seek the vice presidency,” according to a person familiar with the selection process.]

If god willing we get to that point, I think that, despite recent history, Walz might well bow out, or might lose a primary -- you're gonna have Whitmer, you're gonna have Buttigieg, you're gonna have Shapiro whose profile is now much higher, you're gonna have 42-year-old AOC...

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 17:09 (one year ago)

I think this whole protracted VP debate has had the positive side effect of elevating numerous future presidential candidates to public awareness, and it gives them some viability for further down the road. And it's also assembled a loose knit unofficial team of strong advocates in key states. It's been really good how the vibes have been almost wholly positive too, some Shapiro stuff aside. I think that's bc everyone is pretty excited these days, and KH has been able to shockingly and skillfully bring so many sides together.

The He-Man Woman-Haters Club was a neighborhood boys club founded by Spanky and comprising nearly all the boys in the club. Spanky had founded the exclusive club as a defense against girls and Valentine's Day, but Alfalfa's heart was just not in it. His love for Darla keeps him from taking it seriously, but Spanky soon forces him to realize the bonds of brotherhood. Spanky later restores the club as an act of revenge after none of the boys gets invited to the MacGillicuddy Girls' party, and institutes Alfalfa as president. However, when Alfalfa learns the club rules to never fraternize with the girls again, he is forced to rush back and get back a love note he sent to Darla, later trapping the club members there, but he gets busted when the love note is discovered.
