Why can't these people just be crazy in their mansions?

Jersey Devil Vance (President Keyes), Monday, 5 August 2024 17:25 (one year ago)

our next president, RFK Jr.

Excellent piece by Nikole Hannah-Jones

thank you. it's crazy that it needs to be said at all, but American apartheid ensures that white Americans do not need to know anything about the realities of being Black in America if they don't care to know.

"Why can't these people just be crazy in their mansions?"

its like timberlake losing his license. you can't afford to have someone drive you home, dimwit? there is no reason for crazy rich people to ever burden our overburdened game wardens and traffic cops.

scott seward, Monday, 5 August 2024 17:34 (one year ago)

I don't think U.S. Congress reps are necessarily rich, by the way -- they're younger and there are fewer people who get in by being rich. Like, I don't think Ocasio-Cortez is rich, I think she has more normal-person finances. Of course at some point she'll get a 6-figure book deal but that's still not the same as being a doctor and having a 6-figure annual income.

you also have to fight for your job every other year, it's exhausting. bless your child/ren if you have a family bc that is a grueling life.

i distinctly remember people freaking out that she bought a Tesla several years ago. It was the low end model but some people still can't accept that just because you buy a new car it doesn't mean you're rich.

those odds add up to > 100% which happens when they are moving very fast (or when they are meaningless bs too). wonder if it leaked.

Also pheasants. I think it’s a feature of liberal hunters in MN that they are usually enthusiastic conservationists - my uncle who raised goslings for MNDNR when Canada geese were still endangered and led an Isaac Walton League branch was the first person to mention global warming to me. If you killed it, you had to eat it - a hard lesson to learn when creek fishing and you catch a bullhead.

Ugh, Trump is coming to Montana on Friday. (We have plenty of guns here, but unfortunately this is going to be an indoor event.) The building has an official capacity of 8,455, so get ready for lies about turnout!

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Monday, 5 August 2024 19:36 (one year ago)

just to stay on-topic for today's political news, iirc from reading multiple books about fur trappers in the early half of the 19th century, they considered bear meat to be so inferior as to constitute something only to be eaten if starving.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 5 August 2024 19:48 (one year ago)

Re: bears

I have cooked and eaten bear meat, and made bear sausage, and rendered bear lard and used it for pie crust. You can only eat bear if it's been living off berries - bears that eat fish and trash taste too nasty to eat. The meat by itself is very fatty and I don't really like the flavor, which is quite strong and distinctive. Bear lard makes an okay crust for a quiche, but has too strong a flavor for a pie. The sausage, on the other hand, is very good because of the high fat content. You do need to make sure you cook it thoroughly because bears, like pigs, can give you trichinosis.

Hence the standing argument that my aunt and uncle have from time to time, which goes like this:

Aunt: A bear is a pig.
Uncle, mildly: Well, it's not really a pig.
Aunt, firmly: Yes, a bear is a pig.
Uncle: Well, I wouldn't say it's a pig, exactly.

And so on.

Lily Dale, Monday, 5 August 2024 19:50 (one year ago)

in local news, i saw a very old man emerge from his car in the parking lot of a sad grocery store by the freeway. he was wearing a trump hat and he literally looked like the cryptkeeper.

xp all bears are pigs, it's true

according to this Walz's net work is $13k, so that should offset any weird feelings people have about Harris' necklace
