the uk, and i guess france, has a big problem with sewage getting into rivers because of dodgy water companies. apparently it's a bigger problem when it rains a lot, which it has been in france as you've probably seen.

I think the Seine gets a bad rap - these swimming events wouldn't be happening in the Thames at all. The swimming sections for the triathlon events in 2012 had to be held in The Serpentine in Hyde Park.

Swimming in the Seine immediately struck me as a bad idea. In their defense, if I had to jump into an urban river (like to escape a boat that was about to explode), I guess I'd rather it be the Seine's waters than anywhere else. Remember when Chicago was trying to get an Olympics? Imagine the reaction if they said they were holding those events in the Chicago River.

Men's pole vaulting is a damn treat, pretty clear who will win but it's a good crew out there. And the way the women's discus competitors entered was pretty great, everyone was happy and hyped to be there!
