The original lineup of Low quite literally stayed on my grad dorm living room floor back in 1994 after a show and we had Bob's Big Boy for breakfast the day after. Friendly, quiet, good people, and I will always honor Mimi's memory.

that post collardio made about pulling slave handler psychological warfare tactics re kamala's ancestry is a good one. how kamala effectively responds to that is a good question. i feel like unfortunately the best thing would be to respond in some depth and not just brush it off. but a response where she doesn't play into the 'prove your ancestry' trap, she flips it to emphasize the point that americans are diverse but we share a culture, identity and an ethos. melting pot stuff.

Why? Who would this response be aimed at? Who is the audience for it? Seriously. Have you ever heard the phrase "I won't dignify that with a response"? I really think the only way to address it, if one would do so, is use it to call out the hypocrisy of republicans. How they hate identity politics, but they're always the ones who are trying to politicize the identity of others. How they're the ones talking about corruption, and yet they're rallying behind the most corrupt failed politician this country has ever seen. Etc etc.

Even that feels like a waste of time. No one cares about hypocrisy. Harris has three months and the slogan "We're not going back." Looking over your shoulder at your opponent = going back. The message should be 100% "If you elect us, we will do A through Z. And by the way, my opponent is a convicted criminal." That's all you need for three months, especially when you're gonna get at least two weeks' worth of pageantry and press pandering (the VP pick next week, the convention after that) and at least one week where your opponent is gonna be on his back foot (sentencing in September).

conservative whites seem to believe in a one-drop rule for whiteness, ironically. One reason I don't speak to 99.9% of my paternal family is because of their disassociative relationship with their own heritage. They are 1/2 Mexican, but (mostly) look white (grandfather is of English lineage). I myself am almost 1/2 native american from my mother's side. At some point on FB my paternal uncle announced that I 'don't embrace my whiteness' which made me go, huh? I mean I look white. I'm a big anglophile. I eat grilled cheese sandwhiches. How much more white do you want me to act? But I grew up closer to my native family and am a registered tribal member. But apparently because I am 1/4 white I am, in their view, "completely white". These people are incapable of understanding or accepting mixed races. It utterly fucks with their view of the world. "why wouldn't you just BE white if you get to BE white?"

I think they did that in 2016 - ads with kids watching trump say awful shit. Not sure it had much of an impact.
