Reuters has confirmed that, as suspected, the Olympics’ triathlon swimming training session scheduled for today has been cancelled after recent heavy rain in Paris affected pollution levels in the Seine. The men’s triathlon is due to be held on Tuesday.

The women's slalom canoeing final was tense - not a phrase I thought I'd ever say, by the way. Jess Fox went first with her gold medal winning time, and then had to wait for everyone else to do their run, with the one person likely to beat her - Ricarda Funk - going last and then getting 53 seconds in penalities.

watching the women's street skating today and almost all the skaters were, like, 12! there might have been a few actual adults. why are they so young? where are the wily veterans? do they all retire at 16? in men's skating there are some kids but i'm sure most of the street skaters will be in their 20s and 30s. i feel like the men start peaking in their 20s and beyond.
no offense to the women. they are awesome! but you don't quite get that Olympic quality of skating from kids. though the gold medal winner is 14 and she is gnarly.

parents need to start buying their little girls skateboards for their birthdays. that would be my first initiative as Vice President. a nationwide push to get girls on boards when they are five.

so it's been a couple days and some people's events are already over. do they get to hang out (i.e. *get laid*) for the next week and a half or do they get kicked out of their lodgings?

don't they get to stay where their countries' team is staying? it must be nice to be done and have the pressure be off. if i were them i would be drinking my way through paris.

the two big names in the GB skateboarding (park) are skye, who is 16 (was 12 or 13 last time) and Andy MacDonald who is 50 and who i remember from x-games coverage in the 19xxs (he's defected from usa, i think, in order to get a place)

the park skateboarding last time was based on a large bowl, which was great but a bit unusual. i wonder if that's set a precedent or whether it'll be more normal this time

lol, they can't bend their legs, they walk off like aunt sally. the suits must have some kind of structure to them that restricts movement.

Does anyone know about horses? The eventing comes on and I just get this suspicion they're all at it and Charlotte Dujardin only got busted for rivalrous or grudgeful reasons. Do they generally love their horses or do they beat them? Poor horses.

There was a bit in the women’s skating heats where the commentators were mentioning that one of the athletes missed Tokyo to have a kid and then said she was twice the age of the Chinese girl - so 26.

I am amused/unsurprised at the contrast between the women's skateboarders as being a bunch of generally quiet friendly assassins and the men's crew being introduced all "YAAAAARGH BRO."

Flashback moment but in 1992 when NBC first did the 'we can do more, can't we' approach and did the triple cast, as my dad wanted to catch all the track and field, word got out through my sis to her high school classmates -- they'd all just graduated but were hanging out over summer as per usual -- and all the water polo guys were like "CAN WE WATCH THE WATER POLO?" (Keep in mind football was absolutely secondary at my high school -- water polo was the sport.) So I heard stories about all the water polo team all crowded into the den watching every match they could and generally agreeing that the teams were essentially committing unarmed assault beneath the waterline.

i get so tired watching water polo. i can't believe that people can swim that much and not die.
