Subscribed to Peacock for this and now I can't fast-forward? I hit play at 7:24pm PDT and it made me wait until 7:30pm just to watch it.

Someone told me about the decapitated Antoinettes and I didn't believe them.

Couldn’t find a classical 2024 thread but the breakdancing countertenor —unidentified by NBC—was Jakub Orlinski and I think the pianist getting rained on playing Ravel was Alexandre Kanterow.

The weather, I think, curtailed some of the spectacle. There clearly was meant to be a lot more fun with the BMX riders, and I notice several people dancing in boats who didn’t want to be remembered as that one person who slipped and fell in the Seine.

I don’t think they redid the shooting script for the rain either. There was one moment where the camera panned skyward for what was clearly the time for La Patrouille Acrobatique to come through with a big tricolour, and all there was was a shot of thick grey clouds.

I appreciated the vision and taking outside the stadium to more people. Can account for the weather.

(Brisbane 2032 should do the boats thing because then we can have the first Olympian to be eat by a crocodile on live tv)

That balloon/Celine combo was pretty damn spectacular, honestly.

I think if you buttonholed someone involved in this hoax they'd look at you deadpan and say "naturally, handball! Like football but played with the hands!" but if you just stared them down they'd eventually break and admit it.

It's sometimes called Team Handball for that reason, and it's huge all over the world, from Norway to France... France are reigning Olympic and European champs, in both cases beating Denmark in the final, who instead have won the last three World Cups. For some reason they met in the very first group match yesterday, and it was masterful. Denmark down by five in the first half, winning by eight in the end! It's last chance for legend Mikkel Hansen (who played in Paris most of his career) to win Olympic Gold, so it's all very emotional for everyone.

My future brother in law is a triathlete , competing for Barbados - there is, apparently, a backup venue and date but no one is quite sure where it is.
