essay seemed pretty fair-minded to me, maybe I'm missing something. I didn't read about the Hebrew U prof getting thrown in jail, horrifying shit

xpost The opinion colums are going to the New York Times, I believe? https://www.nytco.com/press/masha-gessen-joins-the-times-as-an-opinion-columnist/
― StanM, Sunday, 21 July 2024 06:10 (one year ago)
afaic going to the Times has ruined any credibility that Gessen once had, but since I don’t have twitter, what is the issue?
― butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Sunday, 21 July 2024 11:28 (one year ago)
To utilise the very real, well-documented, forensically proven systematically planned and executed genocidal rape of Bosniak women during the Bosnian Genocide in an attempt to equalise it with the October 7th attack is remarkably disgusting. 50,000 Bosnian women were raped. https://t.co/1siqc7ToHU— Arnesa Buljušmić-Kustura (@Rrrrnessa) July 21, 2024
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 21 July 2024 16:29 (one year ago)
Haven't read it but that seems to be it
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 21 July 2024 16:30 (one year ago)
That tweet is an excruciatingly dumb take on that article.
― Jersey Devil Vance (President Keyes), Sunday, 21 July 2024 16:50 (one year ago)
Yeah, it didn’t seem like that was what Gessen was doing at all.
― butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Sunday, 21 July 2024 17:19 (one year ago)
agreed. I frankly just do not know enough about the bosnian genocide to have an opinion about some of the substantive criticisms in that thread. but this tweet in particular is emblematic of much of the blowback I’ve seen, and one of the reasons I feel so much despair when looking for intelligent discussion about thorny topics apart from like, literary journals months after the fact. just an baldly dishonest conclusion to draw
Masha Gessen is simply utilising the very real pain of Bosniaks and the very real suffering that Bosniak women occured throughout the genocide in order to justify the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. You will NOT use our pain, our suffering, our genocide to justify another.— Arnesa Buljušmić-Kustura (@Rrrrnessa) July 21, 2024
― brony james (k3vin k.), Sunday, 21 July 2024 17:52 (one year ago)
the intentional misgendering in that thread is also a very nice touch
― brony james (k3vin k.), Sunday, 21 July 2024 17:54 (one year ago)
okay, later they seem to genuinely say they weren’t aware
― brony james (k3vin k.), Sunday, 21 July 2024 17:56 (one year ago)
Yeah don't think Arnesa (who seems p good on things generally though I don't follow) would intentionally misgender..
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 21 July 2024 17:59 (one year ago)
Arnesa is a Bosnian genocide survivor and academic herself and certainly knows a lot more than “k3vin k” and though I agree that is not what the article intended (or for me landed), her prickliness is entirely understandable given how little understood the scale of the atrocity is and how much it is denied to this day.
― Roman Anthony gets on his horse (gyac), Sunday, 21 July 2024 18:09 (one year ago)
it’s ok, I don’t think she’ll see my post. as I alluded to, as someone who reads things to try to learn something, I find dishonesty a turn-off
― brony james (k3vin k.), Sunday, 21 July 2024 18:19 (one year ago)
but she’s intentionally misreading Gessen and in fact accusing them of promoting ideology that is simply not being promoted in that piece. her prickliness might be understandable, but she’s fucking wrong.

People can just be wrong without applying intent to it, especially when dealing with a subject as emotive as the Bosnian genocide. I guess it’s easier to just call Arnesa a liar though, that’s surely a novel experience for her!
― Roman Anthony gets on his horse (gyac), Sunday, 21 July 2024 19:00 (one year ago)
you continue to be the worst fucking poster on this entire site, fuck off
― butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Sunday, 21 July 2024 19:33 (one year ago)
you were the one who was calling what was clearly an ethnic cleansing “not an ethnic cleansing” several months ago so why don’t you take your high horse and eat its shit
― butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Sunday, 21 July 2024 19:34 (one year ago)
Do you always police tweets by genocide survivors or is today a special occasion?
― Roman Anthony gets on his horse (gyac), Sunday, July 21, 2024 11:50 AM (fifty-one minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink
I’m not aware of some immutable relationship between surviving genocide and dishonesty or bad faith reading. but I do have a sense of humor, and the irony of your appeal to epistemic deference to genocide survivors, in this thread of all places, has not escaped me
― brony james (k3vin k.), Sunday, 21 July 2024 19:52 (one year ago)
Me when I claim that ethnic cleansing isn’t ethnic cleansing
No idea but I’ve never felt the term genocide fit as well as ethnic cleansing. It reminds me very much of the Balkans.Everything emerging is just increasingly horrific. Don’t even know what to say.― mojo dojo casas house (gyac), Wednesday, 13 December 2023 19:35 (seven months ago) link
Afaict? Ethnic cleansing is done for land, with zero regard to those who live on it. There are millions of Palestinians; Israel cannot kill them all. It can however destroy housing and infrastructure on the Gaza Strip and make it unliveable.Genocide is deliberate extermination of a group of people. There’s a lot of overlap between the two terms: Bosnia arguably can fall into both categories. Rwanda was genocide. They’re both bad!― mojo dojo casas house (gyac), Wednesday, 13 December 2023 20:01 (seven months ago) link
I should clarify upthread for “Why distinguish” is that when eventually the bombardment stops, Gaza will be largely uninhabitable. The majority of Palestinians will still be alive, but they won’t have a home to return to. That’s the goal of ethnic cleansing and why I specifically distinguished. Not to minimise anything that’s happening.― mojo dojo casas house (gyac), Wednesday, 13 December 2023 23:34 (seven months ago) link

There's currently a "confrontation" going on between Sde Teiman soldiers / camp guards and the military police who've come in to arrest one for them for torture. I don't recall last time there was an actual physical tussle between two groups of Israeli soldiers - do you? https://t.co/2avwWI1xJL— Dimi Reider | dimireider.substack.com (@reider) July 29, 2024

Yair Lapid:
"All the red lines were crossed today. MKs and ministers who participated in the invasion of violent militias into military bases constitute a message to the State of Israel: they are done with democracy, they are done with the rule of law,” he says in a statement.
“A dangerous fascist group threatens the existence of the State of Israel. They are the best thing that happened to [Gaza ruler Yahya] Sinwar and [Hezbollah chief Hassan] Nasrallah. If we don’t stand up to them, the country will fall apart. If Netanyahu does not fire the ministers who participated in these violent raids today, he is not fit to represent the State of Israel,” the statement reads.
