No, I know. Hopefully not too hot. We were just having a convo at work about how dreary to feels like spring/early summer have been so I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Maybe the sun is planning big things for those months.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 19 June 2024 11:00 (one year ago)

It feels like it has been a pretty grotty year in the UK. I know it's always unsettled but it feels particularly unsettled this year. We will usually have had at least a couple of periods of extended high pressure by now. Ugh.

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Wednesday, 19 June 2024 11:07 (one year ago)

Yeah that's how it's seemed to me.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 19 June 2024 11:16 (one year ago)

I have mostly been in the US during the most recent UK heatwaves, but we haven’t had a wet June like this for years! This time last year, we were sweltering.

guillotine vogue (suzy), Wednesday, 19 June 2024 11:40 (one year ago)

Last year we had a good May-June, garbage July-August and a finally some days over 30C in September. Most of Europe seems to be having a fairly normal one so far tbh.

Brutal heat... New Delhi, India 🇮🇳 just recorded its hottest night on record at the Safdarjung Observatory (data since 1901).

The heatwave has been rewriting many records. New Delhi has hit 40°C or greater for 37 consecutive days now. pic.twitter.com/eTkzwIpGkD

All of the current “thinking” on immigration and the role of government is going to be very outdated.. maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, and for the rest of our lives

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 19 June 2024 20:53 (one year ago)

it's been 17 years and i still cannot get over gregg easterbrook's (atlantic, obviously) feature wondering aloud who will 'win' and who will 'lose' global warming

sure, a billion people in south asia and africa might die, but think of the opportunities created by an ice-free arctic! shipping costs could be slashed in half!

mookieproof, Thursday, 20 June 2024 02:33 (one year ago)

this forecast for tomorrow just makes me think the entire town is going to disappear in a cloud of steam.

"Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 102. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms."

scott seward, Thursday, 20 June 2024 03:57 (one year ago)

something that doesn't bode well for me. i was out today a little bit and i REALLY don't like breathing in extremely hot air. it has gotten worse as i have aged. it never used to bother me much. i don't know if it has anything to do with being a smoker for so many years. my lungs are healthy. it just really makes me breathe heavy and takes the wind out of me in a way that it never used to. maybe that's why Walgreens sells little portable oxygen tanks now.

scott seward, Thursday, 20 June 2024 04:01 (one year ago)

Its here. Mini heatwave this week. Curtains closed.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 24 June 2024 09:39 (one year ago)

Its just over 30C for a couple of days, so nothing much in the grand scheme of things but summer has definitely got going now

xyzzzz__, Monday, 24 June 2024 10:09 (one year ago)

i'm pretty sure it was 100% humidity yesterday. it was so gross. also we got a tornado warning.

scott seward, Monday, 24 June 2024 11:54 (one year ago)

it's raining here tomorrow and "mini-heatwave" is forecasted to be over by wednesday and it doesn't get any hotter than mid 20's in the north.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Monday, 24 June 2024 11:57 (one year ago)

The app I use is giving an average high of only 27C in central London this week but it's a different model they use, I expect it will go a little higher here and there.

Yesterday in Washington felt not as bad as it could have been it was overcast and there was a steady wind.

Holy heck, Baltimore County was rough today. Brutal humidity.

I took my usual 30 minute walk late in the morning and it was hard to get through. Am just now starting to feel myself, and that’s after hours in the house with AC and glasses of water.

Marten Broadcloak, mild-mannered GOP congressman (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 5 July 2024 20:36 (one year ago)

I was texting with an ex in Arkansas yesterday and she described the 'heat index' as being 112* - is that like the inverse of wind chill? heat + humidity + lack of a breeze?
She said she couldn't even go outside

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 5 July 2024 21:11 (one year ago)

it was so humid here today. yuck. luckily we are now getting another 10 inches of rain. it never rains a little when it rains now. just buckets.

scott seward, Friday, 5 July 2024 21:21 (one year ago)

110 in Sacramento today & tomorrow

help me i am in hell

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 5 July 2024 22:07 (one year ago)

Now 122 in Palm Springs but the heat index is just 111.

‘Just 111’!

Dan Worsley, Friday, 5 July 2024 22:21 (one year ago)

There we go. 124 f/51 c. That’s the all time record as of 20 minutes ago. 5pm hour usually the hottest our so maybe still a couple of degrees to go. https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=33.82219&lon=-116.50431

it's hit us here in Oregon as well, finally, peaking at 99 today

Rumor has it it's gonna be 95 by me on Wednesday and Thursday. But I'm not sure I believe that.

It’s been 103-105 for a week, down to 93 today and it felt so good in comparison.

papal hotwife (milo z), Saturday, 6 July 2024 03:35 (one year ago)

Stepping into 105 completely saps my will to live but at least I can function in the mid 90s.

papal hotwife (milo z), Saturday, 6 July 2024 03:36 (one year ago)

currently 86°F with 72% humidity and a 76°F dewpoint

i don't recall ever seeing a dewpoint that high; it is deeply unpleasant

Helping me not spend money because I refuse to leave the house, my air conditioned box of not dying.

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Saturday, 6 July 2024 19:24 (one year ago)

Declined to go to an outdoor party last night. Nope, not for me.

Dick Cavett Poo Party (Boring, Maryland), Saturday, 6 July 2024 20:31 (one year ago)

it was 113 in Sacramento today, so we headed to a friend’s house in Concord an hour away since they have a pool and slightly cooler

but traffic was fuxking horrific and it took over TWO HOURS to get there and our car’s A/C busted on the way so we were crawling along I-80 with the windows down drowning in sweat omg i have never sweated so much sans exercise

never have i been so glad to swim in a pool

nashwan, Sunday, 7 July 2024 15:01 (one year ago)

ConEd keeps texting and emailing me to tell me to reduce consumption during peak hours but, just as a particularly NYC-centric example, fuck off out of here until you dim the lights in Times Square and every corporate office that's air conditioned down to 57 degrees (on a SUNDAY, mind you).

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Sunday, 7 July 2024 15:38 (one year ago)

^^^my current stance as well

realistic pillow (Jon not Jon), Sunday, 7 July 2024 16:42 (one year ago)

to be fair, lots of corporate offices I'm sure don't want to pay extravagant power bills. They shut AC off in my building on Sunday.

Dick Cavett Poo Party (Boring, Maryland), Sunday, 7 July 2024 16:59 (one year ago)

92, ain’t no thing

calstars, Sunday, 7 July 2024 18:21 (one year ago)

I'm loving the heat in Portland (highs around 100 yesterday through Tuesday). Dry as a bone, not a cloud in the sky, air quality seems good.

It’s so hot in NYC that the Third Ave Bridge over the Harlem River can’t fully open/close because the heat has expanded the steel. We saw workers using a saw to shave part of the steel down & fire boats shooting water on the bridge to cool it down @nbcnewyork #nbc4ny #nyc #heat pic.twitter.com/lAxdyXNHEP
