Normally, I'd be with you on this (how do you argue with someone that batshit), but in my world as a political hack for municipal progressive Dems, the running convo is that there's still a decent-sized chunk of voters who are convinced that neither Biden nor Trump will actually be on the ballot, so Biden pushing for an early debate serves as a way to counter that narrative

I'm kind of convinced that the reason Biden won in 2020 was because all the narratives about him being old and doddering were vanquished by his debate performances, not because they were particularly brilliant but because he was simply normal and able to engage like an actual human being. If he can do the same this time around, I think the result will be the same. Obviously he's older but I really don't see him as someone who has lost a step in any significant way compared to 2020.

Not that Trump being the worst human being on Earth and the whole covid thing didn't play a part. Should also be mentioned that more people are aware now that Trump is perhaps significantly worse than we thought he was in 2020.
