Oh I know where I got that number from. It was for P.G. Wodehouse.

But that was 2016, so maybe less players
I mean overall of course
I'm doing pretty well this season overall, except for a rare 1(1) on MD14. Pop music and film are among my best categories, but I've never seen The Incredibles and wasn't familiar with "Sandstorm" at all. (Having listened to it just now, I'm guessing I've probably heard it at some point, but neither the artist nor title rang a bell. The "dust devil or haboob" clue only got me so close; I guessed "Windstorm.") Virginia Woolf saved me from a ignominious 0(0).

I'm doing remarkably well, too -- managed to reach second place yesterday after the previous #2 forfeited. That said, luck has been a HUGE part of my season, as I have the lowest CAA in my rundle, and my remaining opponents have an average of 73 TCA (compared to my middling 68), so I'm not that confident at securing promotion. (I also have an outside chance at getting to my long-time goal of reaching 100 TCA.)
With that in mind, I kind of think that league expansion has made things easier in the last couple seasons. I was a perennial sub-0.500 B player, but now I've won more in consecutive seasons (small sample size, of course).

I got it! I recall learning about her in a college class I took on the history of American music -- although I'm sure I must've come across the name some other time in the past 25 years, so as to reinforce that memory.
Another (more recent) female composer I learned about in that class: Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in Music.

I know that I objected earlier to saying more people should've gotten a question right, but the MLK question being only a little over 50% is kind of astonishing. It has the THIRD highest CA%.

Did you look at the MCWA?

The site doesn't list one.

I'm facing the rundle leader today who already has 110 TCA. Pray for me.

The only reason I came close to getting yesterday's video game question right is because of the ILX thread that is frequently in Site New Answers, but I answered ... Elder Ring. D'oh.

If my math is right, I think I clinched promotion?! I better prepare myself emotionally to getting murdered in A in a few months!

I just looked up jaymc's branch and noticed that B's winner is another referral. And ugh, I'm going to have to play them again next season lol.

How did everyone's seasons turn out? After finding myself in 1st place midway through the season, I lost 6 of the last 7 matches, winding up in 11th with a record of 11-11-3. This feels like my natural place in the order of things.
But I did finish 1st in LL98, so I'll be playing in the championship later this summer.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 26 June 2024 17:15 (one year ago)
my season was rough, as mentioned above. i had a lot of bad/unlucky defense days, and the rare days where i did reasonably well (ie 4-5 questions right) i would inevitably tie instead of win. i finally had a good win on the penultimate day that briefly pushed me out of the relegation range but then i'm pretty sure my loss on the last day pushed me back down. it didn't seem like a harder season in terms of questions, but maybe i was less focused than usual.
― na (NA), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 17:48 (one year ago)
That's rough luck, NA -- I only had 3 more CA than you but 8 fewer TCAs despite being in B.
So yeah, going to A next season, but I've been stewing in some self-loathing for fumbling in the last MD because I desperately want to break 100 TCA, and for the second season in a row I've finished at 99.

Rough-ish season, finishing in the last place above relegation – but somehow I always had enough points' margin that it never really got sweaty. Happy to have avoided the yoyoing for a few seasons.

Thanks, for that question I realize that I've only ever read up on composting and not fertilizers, so instead went with carbon. I was a little surprised to see that you missed the French question, though I may have fallen into the "If I know it, most people know it" trap?

Yes that trap is an extremely common one, for me anyway.

I have heard of the title dauphin, but would not have been able to tell you what it referred to. I figured the answer had to be "Prince of" something, which I completed with "Versailles."

did not get timothy tho
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 15:42 (one year ago)
Not sure how I knew timothy, tbh -- I went through some men's names and it vaguely rang a bell.
Ended up with a Buckner tie, 5(4)-5(2), because I assigned my opponent a 0 on multitudes (second-easiest question of the day), a 1 on Antarctica (easiest question of the day), and a 1 on Marat/Sade (he has a .781 in Theatre), and he missed all of them, but got the Spain and golf questions right.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 11 September 2024 15:56 (one year ago)
That's quite a coincidence, because I got 3 for multitudes, and my opponent missed it despite a 0.600+ Literature score. And today's opponent, with a Literature score in the high 0.800s, also missed it. Meanwhile, the entirety of our rundle went 84% on it.
― Oedipal Issues, Adipose Tissues (Leee), Wednesday, 11 September 2024 17:19 (one year ago)
never heard of timothy grass in my life
i have heard of marat/sade but would never have pulled it
i did feel slightly dumb for not getting dauphin once i saw the answer but again i doubt i ever would have remembered it
