Awesome return from Sinner for the break.

Long way to go in this set..

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 14:56 (two years ago)

sinners cramping has made him hit out a bit more to shorten pts which has worked well.. 2d set he had seemed more tenative

johnny crunch, Friday, 7 June 2024 15:06 (two years ago)

Alcaraz also a bit more tentative in that set

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 15:11 (two years ago)

Paolini also through to the final of the women's doubles

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 15:15 (two years ago)

This 4th set is beautiful

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 15:45 (two years ago)

Only needed one bp and we are going to a 5th

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 15:56 (two years ago)

Alcaraz played some stunning tennis to break Sinner (despite Sinner ds!)

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 16:11 (two years ago)

Alcaraz just coming up with the answers under pressure

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 16:29 (two years ago)

Breaks again. To serve..

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 16:38 (two years ago)

Scrub that.. He is to serve now. One break in it

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 16:42 (two years ago)

Deuce!

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 16:47 (two years ago)

Kinda want to see Zverev getting humiliated in the final.

Would feel sorry for Ruud. But even more so if he lost another slam final

xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2024 17:19 (two years ago)

Would be emulating some of the greats - Lendl went 0-4, Fed lost three RG f in a row. You do feel a lot has to fall into place for Ruud to win one though. Zverev must not progress!

Michael Jones, Friday, 7 June 2024 17:34 (two years ago)

Missed this thread, Vamos!

Pumped for Paolini tomorrow.

Maresn3st, Friday, 7 June 2024 19:10 (two years ago)

zverev makes 80% of 1st serves in the 3rd to go up 2-1

johnny crunch, Friday, 7 June 2024 19:31 (two years ago)

gotta hand it to the skarsgard-looking fuck, he’s playing pretty fantastically well this tourney

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Friday, 7 June 2024 19:37 (two years ago)

thought ruud was going to retire there for a minute.

andrew m., Friday, 7 June 2024 19:50 (two years ago)

Ah well

Maresn3st, Friday, 7 June 2024 20:08 (two years ago)

That'll take the edge of his trial, I guess

Maresn3st, Friday, 7 June 2024 20:09 (two years ago)

ruud is good, and maybe was ill or something, but i dont trust him in big matches

johnny crunch, Friday, 7 June 2024 20:18 (two years ago)

On serve, just.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:24 (two years ago)

Interesting, Swiatek broken early.

Lets see..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:27 (two years ago)

Broken to love

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:30 (two years ago)

First god rally. Iga won that time

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:32 (two years ago)

So enjoyable this early

Maresn3st, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:34 (two years ago)

Do fear for Paolini here. Already going for broke

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:35 (two years ago)

Broken. DF there..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:40 (two years ago)

Won all the games since Iga was broken.

Giving this another half hour or so.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:45 (two years ago)

Three sps..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:47 (two years ago)

What a fucking return. That's the set.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:47 (two years ago)

Re: Paolini. She can hit it hard but they have to land in almost everytime for this to go the distance

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:53 (two years ago)

Hell yes

Maresn3st, Saturday, 8 June 2024 13:58 (two years ago)

Ah damn

Maresn3st, Saturday, 8 June 2024 14:00 (two years ago)

Paolini broken, even after a couple of errors fron Swiatek. She'll be lucky to win another game.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 14:00 (two years ago)

I was really hoping we were going to get a good tussle today, can she rally

Maresn3st, Saturday, 8 June 2024 14:03 (two years ago)

Chris Evert has won the most French Opens at 7.

This record is seriously under threat.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 14:12 (two years ago)

Well, she won a game..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2024 14:16 (two years ago)

Whoever the ex-player commentating on Discovery, like, we get it you like Iga, please stfu

Maresn3st, Saturday, 8 June 2024 14:18 (two years ago)

Ah well, more time to do housework this afternoon I guess, kinda underwhelming finale

Maresn3st, Saturday, 8 June 2024 14:29 (two years ago)

If I'm Osaka, I'm leaving Paris feeling pretty good about my competitive level: She took as many games off Swiatek (17) as Swiatek lost in her next five rounds combined en route to the title.

Watched the final on delay, knowing the outcome. Paolini is the kind of counterpuncher I always find it easy to root for, and I could see her turning into a next-gen Amanda Coetzer for the remainder of her career.

jon_oh, Sunday, 9 June 2024 02:22 (two years ago)

Coetzer is a great comparison.

Sometimes easy to forget how dominant Chris Evert was, given how she was eclipsed later on by Navratilova and (briefly) Graf. Her World Team Tennis commitments meant she *missed* three French Opens, 1976-78, so she likely should have ten titles, seven of them consecutive. She won 125 straight matches on clay, Aug '73 to May '79, dropping EIGHT sets (Tracy Austin beat her 7-6 in the third, Rome sf). Semi or better in her first 34 Slams across all surfaces ('71 to '83). 90% win/loss all-time. I really only remember her resurgence in the mid-'80s, when she outplayed Martina at Roland-Garros in consecutive finals and got back to #1 - that after something like 13 straight losses to her.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 9 June 2024 09:00 (two years ago)

Just looking up Coetzer now. Good stuff.

While that was an awesome effort by Osaka I'd say any challenegers to Swiatek's dominance on clay would need to build consistency on the surface over the clay court season.

Unlike Evert Swiatek is mostly a specialist on clay. Though she gets far in other surfaces I'd say she'd be pushed to get a Wimbeldon title, or many hard court slams, without building some variety. She is 23 so there's time.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 June 2024 10:22 (two years ago)

On serve, but excellent tennis from Alcatraz to break

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 June 2024 13:34 (two years ago)

Playing at a higher level rn. 4-2

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 June 2024 13:39 (two years ago)

A had two further bps. Z did well to save them

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 June 2024 13:47 (two years ago)

Excellent to get that break. 6-3

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 June 2024 13:56 (two years ago)

1st game at the 2nd has become deuce from 40-0 Alcaraz.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 June 2024 14:06 (two years ago)

Gets through. Big chance missed by Z

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 June 2024 14:10 (two years ago)

Zverev is more comfortable on his serves this set..but can he take the opportunity?

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 June 2024 14:25 (two years ago)

Z finally breaks!
