I've not read the graun piece, but I thought that Merchan quote was referring to the logistical problems of banging him up in the courthouse cell for his continuous gag order violations. He probably isn't going to jail but sentencing decisions on Trump who is now a confirmed felon, the ex-pres stuff shouldn't really be a factor.

Republicans have been the ones throwing roadblocks at getting rid of the felon voting issue, even in states where referendums about allowing them to vote after spent convictions have passed. AFAIC the current law, kept in place by his political allies/party, should mean he loses the right to vote, seeing as he’s always loudly demanded others n this situation must suffer that penalty.

I think one way this will hurt him with low information swing voters (apart from the obvious) is that he won’t be able to shut up about this until November. he’s gonna keep complaining about it at every opportunity and normal people are gonna find it boring.

saw a former ny prosecutor on tv saying that in their experience someone convicted of all of many counts of this level of crime who was also repeatedly in contempt of court and will no doubt not show contrition at sentencing does usually get locked up

I don't need him to go to jail and I never expected that he would go to jail. House arrest for the rest of his life at Mar a Lago would be just dandy. And then when he inevitably violates the terms of his house arrest within a single-digit number of days then, yes, haul his ass off to gen pop.
